My goal is to try and find a smart place to buy in LI or the surrounding areas and somehow find a good deal & a nice place to live. And get to Midtown w/a reasonable commute.
I just read a whole spread on the revitalization of Far Rockaway and wonder if anyone knows anything about Far Rockaway or this revitalization of the area that is going on.

I haven't heard about the revitalization of Far Rockaway but I can tell you it's TERRIBLE now. It CAN be such a beautiful area b/c of the boardwalk and the water but it is pretty bad right now (DH works there). We drove through it recently to get to Belle Harbor and there is a HUGE difference between the two areas. I'll ask him about them fixing it though.

There is a huge article in Newsdays real estate section today. They mention 3 areas, Belle Harbor, Far Rockaway and Neponsit.
I just keep hoping if I keep my eyes open something will be a good deal. I just think everything is so over priced it really bums me out.

Belle Harbor is already nice but it's also already expensive. I always said they should fix up over there b/c it can be so beautiful. I know there are a bunch of projects over there (my DH works across the street from one) and I honestly think if they did fix it up it would take a LOOONG time.

WOW sounds like a good thing. I just called DH but he is busy at a job so he said he'll call me back. I'll ask him what he thinks. If I were you I would drive around the area first to see what it is like. I haven't been there since renovations began.

Betty, where should I go? I live in Lynbrook right now. I don't know where to go to check out the neighborhood. I wonder if I can get an address for Avernene by the Sea.
