Rewards Points Confusion
Does anyone have any experience with using credit card points for upgrades or to purchase anything? I have points on an amex, visa and a discover. We've been trying to load up the Amex because it has the most to get a bang for our buck. Hawaiian Air has a deal that you get 35k if you get their credit card which would be good for one upgrade to first class. I don't know if I should open a new card, which I don't want to do, or use another or just forget this all together because it's such a Pain in the A$$! Does anyone have any recommendations or maybe even know of something that pools all points from all cards in one place? Thanks!!

We have a Hyatt credit card that we put everything on to earn points towards stays or flights and then our own separate CCs. Hawaiian Airlines was amazing, we took the direct flight to Hawaii in August in coach and the seats were unbelievably comfortable and spacious (I'm 5'8 and FH is 6'3). If you do decide to open the credit card, make sure you're not going to be paying a yearly fee equivalent to just upgrading to first class. Hope that helps!

Lauren - agreed, I love Discover for that reason.OK, great, thanks so much! I'm only 5'1, FH is 6'0 so if it was good for yours it should be good for him and I guess it's plenty fine for me. Thanks again!! By the way, how'd you like that flight? It's so long!

I am NOT a good flyer at all...to the point that the day before I called FH to tell him I couldn't go. I had to take three xanex just to get on the plane, and even though I didn't fall asleep at all, I really enjoyed it. I didn't have to take anything for the way home or the inter-island flights. It's really awesome and they play Hawaiian music to set the mood! Lol.

OK, good. We are also not good flyers so we thought maybe connecting would help break up the trip. I don't know how I'd handle 12 hours in the air. When I get anxious/nervous I can't sleep so when I do take xanex or something else I am wide awake and then when we land I could sleep for days :)

I definitely wouldn't connect...once you're in the air, you're just going to want to get there. Breaking it up only adds in additional take-offs and landings. Also, the flight was only a little more than 9 hours so it wasn't so bad!

Eh - Be careful with a lot of the airlines credit cards, unless you a frequent flyer they arent worth it IMO. Also, are you guaranteed that you will be able to upgrade to first for any particular flight of your choosing. If i had to guess 35K is probably the minimum required for off-season dates and to certain destinations plus the price of a coach ticket. Just make sure you check the dates/times/locations its offered and have a way to earn the other 35K and then you have to ensure they have two seats available on the same flight. I went through this process already for my HM, so I know how annoying it is... I have an American Airlines CC because I travel for work but all and all I really dont think its worth it. I'd rather just get cash back from a typical credit card. But it really depends what you want....Usually the annual fee is waived for the first year typically the fee is about $100 a year thereafter which is def cheaper than buying a FC ticket.Welcome New Vendors
