RH ?

RH ?

So... We've been looking at a few places. Some have been SOOOOO helpful already and informative, and others are very laid back (as if they do this every day... jeez!! )

How do we decide??? There's one that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, and a few others that we both think are nice... Of course the one I'm about is more money, but more classy!!! Then another one is much more reasonable and seems VERY willing to work with prices with us...

What's the most important thing in choosing??? Dance floor size? Open bar options? Valet? View?

What are the things that your looking for in a RH that your not willing to budge on?

Ex., for me it was
- dance floor in the middle of the room
- square/rectangle room
- high ceilings
- no random poles in the room
- good food

What are the RH's? Maybe we can give you some insight.

Re: RH ?

I thought that the lobby was important. I liked that there was some sort of grand entrance feeling when I walked into a place. I also liked the dancefloor in the middle of the room and a place for the dj that wasn't on top of my guests. My room doesn't have bars in it. None of the rooms do at CHCC, because they put bartenders with rolling bars to accomodate more guests. Since I have 389 people invited, I thought this was convenient.

I would say food for certain, is liquor included (it usually is). The size of the room for the number of guests you're having and reputation. Does the place look nice, clean carpets, updated fixtures and bathrooms... Are you flexible with date/time of day and do they have what you want available...

Can you give us a little more info? The places you have looked and what your price range is?

ETA: If you stick with 10/2 we'll be date twins.

For us, it was the dance floor, food, outdoor space and overall look. We didn't want an obstructed view or to be crowded while we're dancing.

same here. mostly I just wanted a place that looked very classy and modern and was on the water with beautiful view
of course the price was very big concern for us, but we ended up going with the most expansive we saw because we decided the level of food and service along with great reviews was more important than anything

i think (in ny at least) everyone usually expects there to be an open bar and valet.... i would look at food and service as a major factor

Re: RH ?

I think what you look for in a RH is a very personal choice. The things that were important to me, my parents thought was ridiculous! But I really wanted a place that had alot of photo ops inside becuase I dont like to have photos outside (I hate how I look outside). I also wanted the parkinglot to be off to the side or separate from the RH - I didnt want my guests to feel that they were walking through a parkinglot to get to my venue. It was important for me to have high ceilings and a well lighted room. I didnt want my room to look 'basement-like' with the low ceilings or too dark. I loved the manion look - the double staircases, the high chandeliers, etc. I made FH and parents CRAZY with my requests - but eventually I found everything I was looking for - I never settled!!!

Things that I looked for in both halls (recently had to switch RH's)

1. Pretty view/surroundings
2. Big open windows and lots of light
3. Warm/Intimate Feel
4. Friendly Staff
5. Good Food
6. When I was looking at the new RH since our guest list increased, a larger dance floor
7. Things included with booking (ie: linens, chair covers, etc)

Re: RH ?

This is a personal decision and what is important to you, will be different for someone else.

For me I only wanted water views, That was a must.

-water views
-good food
-price (I didn't want to spend more than $100 a head, and I got much less than that)
-high ceilings

When we walked into CLM, we both got a feeling like this is it.

I love the way there dance floor looks- not wood, but marble.

Re: RH ?

Thanks so much! Believe it or not, even though it IS a personal choice, all of this is very helpful!!!

Our church is in New Jersey, so the reception will be in Northern NJ or Rockland County... So far, we've looked at The Palisadium, Nyack Seaport, Il Tulipano and La Fortuna... We have some more appointments to make, but this weather messed me all up bc today would have been ideal........ I'm going somewhere on Sunday and am talking to two more places tomorrow morning........

There are two that we've been to already with water views. Look great at night (one even has 10/10/10 available!!! FH likes that bc it's binary!!! ) that place is HUGE... Two different rooms that we could choose from, one can accommodate up to 500!!! We are hoping for 200, so they said that they could definitely play some tricks on the room by moving things around and not having it feel empty or like people are too far away from each other... The other is nice, but small. I think their max capacity is something like 250 or 270. And the dance floor is against a wall, which I didn't love bc his whole family dances, so I think a big roomy dance floor is important!!!

As far as food goes, though, when do you do the tasting? Isn't it after you book? Or am I wrong? Only one place that we went to mentioned coming in for a tasting, others mentioned 'menu selection a few months before the event'.....

Prices don't seem to be too bad, I thought they were going to be crazy high for some of the places we saw... But most are averaging around $100pp and said they could work with us bc of the timing factor...

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help... i'm sick of getting advice from people who either haven't done this at all, or who haven't done it in YEARS and they want us to do it their way... You girls are all so helpful that it's really appreciated!!!!

Re: RH ?

we went with the place that gave us the most food for our money!! (i have a big italian family and that's really all they care about!) plus we've been to our rh before and the food was awesome and ppl really took care of us there. also important was that they only did 1 wedding at a time, and that it had CH space where people could be indoors or outdoors.
