Does your contract include the language that you are waiving your right to a jury trial?????? THAT IS PATHETIC!!! it makes me wonder....
Also, if you get sick or injured, do they protect you in any way or did they tell you to go buy 'wedding insurance?'
i'm reallyyyy appalled.
I was all excited that I almost booked my RH buttt then I got a contract in the mail that protects only the RH's interests and NOT my own.
I am not pleased with the way the RH treats the patrons and now i'm even thinking of not booking with this particular hall.....as much as i loved it this situation made me not want to book...

I believe it is normal but honestly, that clause about waving your rights to a trial wont hold up in court. I think it's just to discourage people from pursuing litigation.

i couldn't remember whether that is a clause that is just not waivable. i have to dig up my contract outline. just the fact that they have that in the contract makes me wonder.

I also think that that would never hold up in court anyway. But, if it really bothers you - and you love the place - maybe tell them that you want that part crossed out of the contract. Or, run a consumer search on them and see if they have ever had any major complaints that would result in taking them to court. I do think it is odd, my contract only states payment dates and cancellation policies.

he refuses to strike that clause. he said it's a deal breaker!!!! ughhhhhhhhh

yeah im almost sure my contract says the same thing, i think most of them do infact. So if thats your only reason for not liking the hall then dont let that effect your decision.
If anything does happen and you need to postpone, most would work with you.
I know at my hall they told me about a blizzard during someones wedding and they had called her to ask when she wants to reschedule the wedding for but she wanted it that day.
Suffolk law though for Rh's is different

Well, if I am correct... no one can make you waive your right to a jury trial. At least not in a wedding contract. Those kind of silly clauses in contracts often get thrown out by a judge anyway if you have a strong enough case. I would be more concerned with WHY it's there. Did they get burned before???

Yea, i was extremely shocked. they really try to s c r e w brides over sometimes. I have a huuuuge ego problem and this is bugging me out. Also, i just checked bbb.org and he said that he's never been to court with a bride but there is a complaint. i am praying that the complaint has to do with the restaurant and not the wedding hall.

It is Crescent Beach Club. Not too many CBC brides on here unfortunately.

It sounds like an arbitration clause. That's what it's basically making you agree to. That or a non-jury trial which it would never come to anyway.
Tell him you are crossing it out. I know he said it's a deal breaker but I'm sure they won't hesitate to take your money.
If it makes you feel better, I haven't ever heard of any problems with the CBC. Everyone is always more than happy.
