On top of having the emergency cerclage put it and having to be on bedrest,I have a negative blood type and had to have a Rogham shot prior to my surgery and I have to have another shot at 28 weeks. Did anyone else go through this and was the baby fine??? thanks

Re: RH Factor...
My x-boyfriend's mom used to have these and all of her kids were fine.

Re: RH Factor...
Camille, my cousin is RH negative and she had to have the shot for both of her pregnancies. Both her and the babies were fine! I'm sure everything will be ok!

I had it and everything was fine. I believe it is more for the mother's protection

Re: RH Factor...
I'm Rh neg too. I got the shot at my first visit...not sure if I'll need to have another one. But my doctor explained it to me and I'm sure everything will be fine. How are you holding up? Are you all caught up on the soaps? Best of luck to you. Hang in there.

Re: RH Factor...
I'm holding up ok, I don't watch soaps because I guess I never watched them before. I just watch a lot of t.v. and all the junk that'son during the day. I'm surprised you got the shot at your first visit. My shot is sheduled for 28 weeks.

Re: RH Factor...
You should have your hubby rent you a bunch of chick flicks to watch durring the day, sometimes those talk shows get to be too much. At least you have a laptop now so you can chat with us again. Don't know why but my Dr. said she always gives the shot right away? But also I was 11 weeks when we found out. Geez how clueless did I feel.

Re: RH Factor...
Does anyone know if you automatically need to have a Rogham shot if you have a negative blood type? My mom being the alarmist that she is says yes, but my dad says no...?
(we're not TTC yet, but are currently negotiating)

Re: RH Factor...
Applesfla, the doctor knew right away because of all the blood they take on your first visit, she had me scheduled for the first shot at 28 weeks, she knew but didn't discuss it with me.
I only found out when I was in the hospital and they had to perform the surgery..I was a little upset that this wasn't discussed early on, because I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time. Oh well the baby is healthy and that's what counts.
I love to watch a baby story and maternity ward on TLC!

Re: RH Factor...
if you are type negative blood (and if the father is positive) than you must have the shot. It is standard practice to give the Rhogam shot to any mother who is Rh Negative just to be on the safe side. What happens is, not so much with the first baby, but the second baby and babies after that are effected. The mothers negative blood cells attack the baby's positive cells and kill the baby. You will wind up with a miscarriage or the baby will not live that long after birth. They can treat it, but out look is poor. When rhogam is given is usually decided by the doctor, usually around 28 weeks, or after a birth of the baby.

Re: RH Factor...
Thanks for the info. I've been wondering about it for months! I haven't wanted to ask my parents more in fear of getting their hopes up......we're not planning TTC until next year
