RH Help
I wouldn't recommend the Watermill...I am 2 weeks away from my wedding and getting married there. My FH and I have a situation where we are under our minimum by about 45 people (guarantee of 150). They have a smaller room there with only a guarantee of 120, but we booked the larger room because we were inviting almost 300 people, so we thought 150 would be no problem. So now we have had almost 60 percent of our guest list decline b/c of the economy or whatever and the other day I called the Watermill to talk to the BM about our situation (just to give him the heads up). I usually deal with Bruce, but he was not in on that day, so I talked to Brian. He was very rude to me when I explained the situation that he actually made me cry. Plus, he lied to me about 3 different things that they supposedly told me when we signed the contract, but they told us things completely different. We chose the Watermill b/c of their reputation and everyone says the food is amazing and we have been really excited up to this point.
Now, just so you all know, I was not trying to get out of paying for the 150 people, b/c we do have a contract and we have it in our budget to pay for that many. I was simply letting him know the situation and wanted to find out if there was anything they would be willing to do to try to make it not so painful to pay $4,000 for food for people that aren't there (i.e. anything extra they would be able to throw in). He didn't have to be so nasty and dishonest with me. I mean, it is not a good idea to piss of a bride 2 weeks before her wedding. I will never recommend anyone to this place - no matter how nice the day of the wedding is simply because I now have a bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing. I plan on calling back in a day or so to talk to Bruce and tell him what happened and let him know how disgusted I am with the way Brian talked to me.
Sorry this is long - I just wanted to let all you brides know about what happened and to perhaps select another venue that might be more willing to work with you and not make you cry when you call to discuss a problem with them 2 weeks before your big day. GOOD LUCK TO YOU WITH FINDING A PLACE!!
My suggestions would be Chateau La Mer or Carlisle on the Green in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow (which is GORGEOUS with a lot of really nice grounds!!!)
