My sister recently told me that she and her boyfriend should be getting engaged soon and they'd like a December 2008 wedding. They live out of town, so she asked me to help with the plans.
I know I may be getting ahead of myself, since they're not engaged yet! But i am so excited! i love my sister, and i love planning!
She said they would be looking for a reception location in Suffolk or Nassau for approx. $50-$75 pp. Is this a reasonable price? I wonder if December is cheaper, or if it's expensive because of the holidays. Any info or suggestions would be so helpful. TIA!

Re: RH on the less expensive side?
Milleridge Inn in Jericho has prices in that range all year. They have the Cottage for larger parties (100 and up I believe) and the Carriage House for smaller parties (75). In both of those, they are a one affair per day deal.
You can also do the restaurant for smaller parties or rehearsal dinners. We had our reception at the Carriage House so feel free to use me for any information you need.
My wedding photos are in my website's photo gallery here.
Good luck, you're in the right place for planning ideas and help!

Try Leonard's, Fox Hollow, Larkfield Manor, you may be able to negotiate a price too! Try Swan Club, I know my sister's getting married there this June and I know she didn't pay more than $75pp, but call them and find out for yourself.

Re: RH on the less expensive side?
I just wanted to add that when we were looking for an RD, our price for a Saturday evening in December, was the same price as the summer. The only exception to this was the Thatched Cottage.
She should consider having her wedding on a Friday or Sunday, or even in January.

How big is your wedding? If your wedding is larger, you will have a smaller quote pp. My wedding is only 100pp and I couldn't get quotes below $95pp at a lot of RH.

Re: RH on the less expensive side?
December is not always cheaper. I originally wanted December but my fiance wouldn't have been able to do that anyway, so we chose January. January and February definitely have cheaper prices. And January doesn't sound good, but I loved it. We don't have any outside pictures, but I really don't care, what we have are great anyway. $50-75 is a bit hard to find - especially if you want that to include tax and tip. It's likely she'll have to do an afternoon or a Sunday wedding, which is fine, but even in the off season Saturday night is usually more than that.
