we brought ours in so we could get a receipt. Since banks dont really do the cancelled checks anymore and i like to have double proof of everthing - it was more comfortable

We always go there and they give us a receipt. If you are paying by check you can do either. If you don't get a receipt, you'll have the cancelled check as proof of payment.
