My hall only requires a $1000 deposit, then $2000 60 days after booking and then the remainder is due right before the wedding. We don't have any sort of payment plan that they require.
I feel a little uneasy about this, and would prefer to make payments along the way. I am thinking of calling OFC to see if they would allow me to send periodic payments so that I don't have to pay 20K to the hall a week before the wedding in addition to all of the other vendor payments! It may be a little too overwhelming right before the wedding, and if I make payments along the way I think it will help kept me on track budget wise. I think I would prefer having most of the hall paid off and to just make a small payment (maybe 5K) right before the wedding.
What do you girls think?? Are there any cons of doing this???

Re: RH Payments
The only thing I would say is save a big chunk for after you get your RSVPs. You dont want to overpay...because I doubt they will refund you. My RH took $1000 downpayment and then we paid $3000 90 days later and then $3000 six months before the wedding. Then the balance is due the week of. I think they do this because some people plan their wedding in 9 months. Not everyone takes over a year. So for us its spread out and for some people its not.

Re: RH Payments
ours is the same way (only 30, 60, and 90 days is 1K, and the rest the week before), but we plan on making periodic payments as well. The only con I see is we won't be making interest on it if it were to stay in the bank-but that's about it!

Re: RH Payments
really? our is 1000 dpwn then payments start at one year before the wedding date.
We've already spoken to them about the plan.
I;d break it out monthly and pay them in small installments.
No RH is gonna say no to $

Re: RH Payments
our payment plan is as follows:
- $2000 to book in August - $3000 in March (it was originally 60 days after but because we booked so far in advance we were able to talk them into pushing it back to March) - $4000 in December (6 months before) - the remaning balance due the week before.
Like the girls said, your grand total will change after your RSVP dates so i wouldn't pay a whole lot extra up front because they may not refund your money. Also, if you have a savings account opened for your wedding fund, you are earning a lot of interest while keeping that money in there longer - that's also something else to think about.
I understand completely about not wanting to shell out so much money at one time towards the end but the two reasons above are enough for me to say I'll just wait to pay.

Re: RH Payments
that sounds so complicated! we paid a little over $1200 for our deposit and were told we have to have 50% paid by 4 months before the wedding date (which would be 1/27/2011) and we have to make our final payment one week before the wedding. we're planning on sending something every month though. and they said that would be fine.

Re: RH Payments
my payment plan is the same as you just described. we asked them if we could make payments along the way and they said yes, they'll always take out money. lol. but i think we will just pay the balance at the end

Re: RH Payments
they'll accept any money you want to give them. We had this discussion with a few halls. They told us its better for us to throw it in an account and collect interest.

I think that if you dont have to give them the money then Dont! let that 20 grand ecru interest in your savings account instead of there's . Also what if the place Burns down or something from now until then... they have all that money that you didn't have to give them! Think about it first and discuss with your FH

Re: RH Payments
most of hte RH's will allow you to pay in payments before the wedding even if you don't have to. We had to pay $1000 as deposit then every other month after that $1000 payments 4 times... to total $5000 paid. we are paying about $1000 every month instead to make sure we dont have a huge paymenty left over at the end. BUT I figured out the total for our guarantee and am only paying up to that amount. Well, less than that amount actually. I want to have a balance left (small one) to hold over their head incase somethign happens lol

Re: RH Payments
My RH has a payment plan too, but we asked if we could give them money monthly and they were fine with that. So it is worth asking if that is what you prefer!
