RH Venue Problem

I'm getting married on the friday before labor day in LI and today one of my co workers who lives in LI brought something to my attention, she said that my guests will be stuck in traffic trying to get to my wedding becuase the majority of them are coming in from queens and traffic is heavy around that time my wedding starts at 6pm. Everyone will be heading out to the hamptons and montauk for Labor Day. Please help is this true? Should I move the date

Not necessarily. It is Labor Day Weekend. Maybe they will want to stay on Island for the weekend. Are you doing a block of hotel rooms for out of town guests? If you have any questions and or need any ideas please FM us.

You dont have to move your whole wedding around just bec of traffic. Just have your guests leave a litle early.

Send out STD's like 10-12 months before your wedding. It'll give your guests time to make arrangements to take the day off or leave work early so that they can make it on time. Any friday night wedding is gonna encounter rush hour traffic, but if your guests know well in advance, they can work around it.

I am sure there is another way to go about the delima other than changing your date. BUT the traffice will be insane. I have been stuck in that traffice many many times going out to the Hamptons for Labor day weekend. People from thecity and Queens leave work early and the traffice is insane until late at night. On the same note, coming home from the island after a sunday wedding will be the same problem. Maybe you can space your church and CH far enough apart to insure guest have time for traveling in traffic. And Maybe plan something near your RH to entertain them?

yep..there will be traffic, but i wouldn't change the date. just remind people to give themselves TONS of extra time to get there.

There will be traffic, but dont' change the date. I live out that way and to be honest this past summer I found Thursday nights to have more traffice then Fridays. Most people are off the entire week before labor day so they are already out there.

Just remind your guests to leave a little extra time -- do you mind me asking where your wedding is?

I think your guest should prob now and expect there to be more traffic--so I am sure they will leave a little earlier

I agree. Common sense would indicate that you would need more time. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

You will be fine!!! People are more than smart enough to know that they have to leave early & leave themselves extra time to do things on holiday weekends!!

My brother was married a few years back on Memorial Day weekend & I think grand total - maybe 5 people were late!

No worries!

I'm getting married Friday of Labor too, only in 2008. This year, I did a trial run from out west towards my church at around the time people would need to leave to arrive on time. I also drove to my RH. Then I drove home and observed the traffic going the opposite direction (towards the RH). Honestly, it wasn't that bad. My fears were calmed so much. There was absolutely NO traffic at around 1:30pm when people would likely be on the road to my ceremony. At around 6pm, there was some traffic heading out east but it was STILL not that bad, definitely not enough to justify changing your wedding.

I sent out my STDs a year in advance, and I'm sure my guests will understand and leave enough time for any trafficc they might hit.

I got married on Labor Day Monday and all I heard for 2 years was 'there is going to be so much traffic'. Mind you, NO ONE hit ANY traffic coming or going. The venue said that we had sooo many people there sooo early because everyone thought they would hit traffic. Everyone got home with no traffic as well. My wedding was in Suffolk at noon and ended at 6, and I am from Queens as well. Don't move anything around!!!

Re: RH Venue Problem

you totally DO NOT have to move your date!

Many companies close at 3 or so on holiday weekends anyway. And your guests will know they have to allot for traffic.

I would recommend a Save The Date though, since it is a holiday weekend.
