I want to make my ribbon wands now and store them until next summer. I really want to get as much done now as I possibly can. This will be a hectic year for me- tenure year, lots of professional development classes, etc . . .
My question is, do you think since I am spray painting the dowels that the paint will peel by next year? I plan on using a sealant.

Forgive me but, what will you use this for? What does it look like?

I am using them for my 'grand entrance' into the reception hall. I will have my little cousins hand them out at the Cocktail Hour.
They are used instead of petals, bubbles etc. The guests just wave them around when the ceremony is over. i am attaching little bells to mine as well.

Thanks! I wanted them for the ceremony but I love the bubbles so I opted to incorporate both

This may be a dumb question, but how do you make these ribbon wands? Where did you get the materials? I love them but haven't figured out how you girls make them yourself. TIA

I ordered some dowels from dickblick.com but they were the wrong size so me and JZNCK (my wand saviour) returned them. I wound up buying them at the Rag Shop. I was originally putting ribbon around them but that was taking too long so I spray painted them this weekend, Home Depot sells the caps and Michaels or Rag Shop sells ribbon. Just spray paint, cut ribbon and attach with the caps.

I think that you will be fine. If you wanted you could use a polyeurathane(sp?) to help seal them.
