Sooo, I am a bad girl and have yet to get my ring insured!! I really need to do it soon, so I am wondering - what is the procedure? I believe I have to get my ring independently appraised, right? What's a good place to go, what do I have to bring, and do I need an appointment? Thanks ladies!

Re: Ring Appraisal
mine was appraised by the jeweler where FH bought it--they gave him the appraisal when he bought it. Are you sure your FH didn't get one when he bought the ring?

Re: Ring Appraisal
I went to a place in garden city i think it will be about $100 or so....bring any sort of paperwork you have for your ring if its certified, and they will give you an appraisal:)

Oooo thanks! Did you have to make an appointment? And I do have the GIA papers, but should I also bring FH's receipt from the jeweler?

Re: Ring Appraisal
I went to JEWELRY JUDGE in Garden City and he was great. It starts at about $95.00 for any ring the size of .99 then for every carat that is .5 over that is another 25.00. Something like that. But they were great and give you all the paperwork for the insurance right then and there.

Re: Ring Appraisal
The jeweler where FH got the ring gave him a certificate of appraisal and we got insurance through the homeowners insurance it was cheap (I think less than 100$ for year)

That would be perfect, because my job is in Garden City! Do you think one hour (my lunch break) is enough time? Do you stand there and wait while he does it?

Re: Ring Appraisal
our jeweler have us an appraisal, but we also had it independently appraised by the Jewelry Judge in Garden City. Our insurance was based on the value of the appraisal.

Re: Ring Appraisal
Yeah my FH got my ring in the diamond district in the city and they appraised it there I believe. We are renting so we just put it onto our renters insurance, but FH did this because he didn't want me to know how much the ring cost!

Re: Ring Appraisal
i would go to someone other than your jeweler so you get an outside opinion on what the worth of your diamond is. we brought my ring and GIA certificate to macys 34th st and got a great appraisal. my ring in insured with jewlers mutual.

An hour should be plenty of time. I think it took me about 45 min. You sit in his office with him while he does everything the ring never leaves your sight!

Re: Ring Appraisal
I had mine appraised by the Jewelry Judge in Garden City as well. I was so amazed at how knowledgeable he was and how dead-on he was with the measurements of the ring. I highly recommend him!

Re: Ring Appraisal
i had my ring appraised by my jeweler. As far as insurance, I recommend Jewelers Mutual. I chose them because if something were to happen to my ring, they let me go through my jeweler and many other insurance companies make you go through their person. check out their website jewelersmutual .com

Re: Ring Appraisal
FH and I went to Good Old Gold in Massapequa to get my ring appraised. It costs $75 (This was in October 2006). All we needed to bring was all the paper work on the ring.
