Ring Boy & Flower Girl age

I am trying to avoid having as many children in my wedding party as possible so that there won't be many at the reception. What is the average age for the ring boy and flower girl? I would rather squeeze the 2 kids I want to use instead of using 4-ring boy, flower girl, jr bride & groom.
Thanks ladies.

I have a very large family so I will have about 20 kids at my reception ranging from 1-14 yrs old. All nieces & nephews. My flower girl will be 3 1/2 and my ring boy like 4 3/4.

A RB should be under 8, a Flower girl the same.
A Jr. BM is a girl under 12 (or is it 13).

You can ask the children to help with giving out programs, petal for the toss (or bubbles), stuff like that. YOu might also want to ask your reception site about discounted children's meals and a children's menu. Mine will do hot dogs, chicken nuggest etc.. for the kids.

If you do not want to have children then you should have an Adult only reception. You cannot have some nieces and not others. I would tell the family that it is very expensive and you want the the Adults to have a good time without worrying about taking care of the children. If you let some of the kids 'dress-up' and not all, you will have problems also. IMO, you either have all or none of your nieces and nephews.

Michele as always you have great info!! FH's nephew will be 7 1/2 and his little cousin about 6 3/4 by the time the wedding comes around. I prefer to have them be the ring boy and flower girl-not a good role for her since my church doesn't allow flowers being thrown in the church but what to do...
If only I could convince my mom its not necessary to have 4 kids.
That would mean 4 rambunctious little ones running around my reception and I will freak out if I see kids running! That is what they are. I have seen them in action at events! This is enough material for me to tell my mom we are nixing the jrs'. I know I may hurt some feelings on the kids side, but the parents all understand. They already asked us if we want kids and I flat out said no! The only kids involved would be FH's little cousins who happen to all be girls. And both mommies said that is best-no headaches and no running around chasing after their kids so they can enjoy the wedding. But I will definitely use them on other things like you mentioned Michele.

Thanks again

My flower girl will be my baby sister who is 7 1/2. My ring bearer is my friends son who will be 3 and 3 months. I think it will be interesting to see if my ring bearer makes it down the aisle by himself or if it will be something straight out of funniest home videos.
