Ring insurance?

Ring insurance?

How many of you ladies got your ring appraised and insured? I keep reading that I'm supposed to do this but I dont even know where to start. FH bought my engagement ring at my jewelers that is just a little 'mom and pop' type shop. Do I do it there? Can I do it elsewhere?

What do I do??

I think my ring came with all the information & paperwork State Farm needed from Tiffany, but it couldn't be insured under FH's name, it had to be under my name since it's my property. I think he pays around $200 a year for it?

My ring is not insured. What are the benefits? If you lose it does the insurance replace it?

this is what one of the articles about it says '

Do purchase insurance

'Insurance is necessary to protect your financial investment in the event that something gets lost, stolen or damaged,' explains jewelry designer Sylvie Levine. 'It is also important to have your jewelry appraised every five years as the cost of diamonds and precious metals go up. If you were to lose something which was appraised 10 years ago, the insured value would be far less than the actual replacement cost.'

So... I guess I should look into it?

When I got my promise ring I looked into the insurance and was going to take it to go get appraised but I wound up not going through with it and then with the engagement ring FH said he had all the paperwork so I will have to ask him tonight if we have insurance on it or not.

When I did look into the insurance for the promise ring though it was pretty reasonable. You can do it online or also the jewelry stores may have specific places they use for insurance they use for themselves that they can recommend to you. That was how I was going to go about it I was going to use the same company. I will look for the website of the company and post it.

I did not insure my ring. My mother never did and my brother never did for his wife..

Im just following the pattern. (Plus my FH has warned me NEVER to lose the ring!) LOL

Fh has all the paperwork he needs to insure my ring. He got all the details before he gave it to me. But has he filled it out yet? No of course not. Ugh men.

FH had my ring insured before he even proposed! I think the insurance company needed the appraised value (wherever he got that from) and the stones GIA certificate (or any other certification for your particular stone: GIA, EGL, etc.)

The policy is under both of us since its technically my property. If my ring is ever lost or stolen it'll be replaced. I definitely think it's worth the peace of mind, I don't think it's very expensive.

okay... so with that said... I have NO idea what type of stone mine is. I found it at my jeweler who got it through an estate sale. Should I just get it appraised by my jeweler? Is there a specific place I need it appraised? Truthfully.. I don't know much about my ring. I saw it and fell in love with it and all I know its that its 14k white gold.

Mine is insured. They replace it if it gets lost or stolen. I only pay about 60 a year. Its worth piece of mind. FH got my e ring through blue nile and they are associated with a jewelers mutual co. They can look up and get appraisal right from order number because theyre associated. but they do insurance for anyone with an appraisal.

You will need an appraisal in order to insure it. I am going to insure mine. I really need to get on that. I am walking aorund with way too much money on my hand. I pray to god I never lose it, but really you never know. $hit happens.

Mine did too! I was ready to have that be the very first thing I did and he was like, 'You think I would have gone anywhere with it without insuring it first?' I even double-checked with him recently to make sure that he really did do it, LOL.

We have a policy under Jewelers Mutual, he had the jeweler appraise it when he purchased the ring. You most certainly want insurance because they will replace stones that fall out, theft, mysterious disapearance, etc. Our renter's insurance covered it but would not replace it, they'd give us the money and we were not happy with that. We pay $150 a year and I believe the higher the appraisal the more you pay through Jeweler's Mutual.

I NEED to insure mine!! Which brings me to my next question... do i bring it to Aruba with me in April? I am SO nervous to lose it or dirty it at the beach. I am so cautious with it. I know some married girls who have a fake one for the beach. Whats your thoughts??

FH and I got my ring insured the week after we got engaged because Im prone to breaking and losing things haha (we have protection plan on it too!). FH tried to get it on his renters insurance but the company said that my proposing to me and giving me the ring FH has no legal ownership of it so it would need to be on my rental insurance. But in order to do that I would need the appraisal and FH isnt ready for me to see how much he spent on it. So alas he got a third party insurance that the jewelery store recommended.

I am going Key West and getting a fake. Even though my ring is fully insured I don't want to chance anything. I won't feel comfortable wearing it at the pool and I will be a nervous about it in the safe. Plus I don't want a tan line.
For our honeymoon, only wearing wedding band, no e-ring.

My FH also had my ring appraised and put insurance on it before proposing. We were going 3,000 miles across the country and then on a cruise to Alaska for 4 days before he even proposed. Luckily nothing happened but I'm glad he did it!! Either way, I can't imagine having a different ring from my original one if I ever lost it!
