FH and I just went to get my ring appraised.. and were wondering about getting it insured.
Has anybody done this? and does anybody know how to go about doing this..?
I am horrible with losing /misplacing things and I couldnt imagine doing that with my e-ring.. but if it was lost would the insurance cover it? thanks girls...

Re: Ring Question
I insured mine with USAA - they will replace it with a ring that has stones of equal size and clarity but they can do it through any jeweler is my understanding.
My ring is antique - so they have to insure it for the exact appraisal amount because it isn't technically 'replaceable.'

Re: Ring Question
def get it insured. i got mine insured through jeweler's mutual. i wanted diff insurance, but since i dont' have a car or a home, no one would take the jewelry policy as a stand alone policy. when we buy a house, we're adding it to the home owner's policy. it's not expensive, and it gives you such great peace of mind.

Re: Ring Question
I have my ring insured through Chubb... they have a special engagement ring policy
I am an insurance broker so I did a lot of research with this!!! It is a stand alone policy and they will replace my ring exactly... and with any jeweler i want.....
The great part about this policy is i can add other pieces of jewelry or fine arts on it.... i recently added some of my wedding presents too!!!

Re: Ring Question
my parents put mine as a rider on their home insurance...it covers everything regardless of whether it's lost or stolen, no matter where it is..
ETA: I also found this link on Chubb's Masterpiece Valuable Articles Coverage...

Re: Ring Question
Def get it insured. If you have an home owners policy you can get it put on that.
Mine is under a seperate policy -- FH did it before he even gave me the ring.

Re: Ring Question
Mine is an addendum to my renter's policy. You will have to send/fax them a copy of the original appraisal with whoever's name is on the renters/homeowners policy on the appraisal (we had this problem b/c FH got the appraisal with his name and address, and I wanted to add it to my policy, so I had to get a new copy with my name and address---obviously we don't live together yet!)

Re: Ring Question
Get them insured as soon as you can. You never know what can happen so better to have it covered!! Lot's of girls wont wear their rings on their honeymoon because they're afraid of something happening to it but if you have insurance on it..it can be replaced. I did my e-ring & band through jewelers mutual.

Re: Ring Question
mine is insured with jewelers mutual.....if your ring was a substantial amount of money for your FH to spend than i would def insure it. even though it wont replace the sentimental value of the ring at least you wont be left with nothing. i got mine appraised at macys 2 days after we were engaged and that week it was insured. i have another ring that was about 2K but we never insured it because for that amount of money it wasnt worth the payments - not that the ring wasnt expensive but b/c for us it was worth the risk to not have an insurance payment so its all relative to how much money you think is worth paying a year, every year for the ring. for us it was def worth it to insure my e-ring. but i pray that we will never have to use it!
