ritz carlton in Maui

Has anyone stayed there? we are thinking of staying and hear the hotel is gorgeous but the beach is un-swimable--meaning that there are a lot of rocks. but we can go to another beach nearby.

any advice?

I have never been but have researched it. The 4 Seasons is supposed to be better because it rains less on that part of the island.

thanks for the feedback. i will keep that in mind. we are using marriott hotel points to keep our costs down so we have to stay at one of the marriott brands. i'll continue to check out some of the others too.

thanks again!

We were thinking of staying there but apparently the 2005 dental convention is being held there the 1st week of August. So we ruled it out, but it is gorgeous.

We stayed on the south side but did drive by to take a look. It's really, really pretty! It's not on swimmable beach but there are a ton of beaches all over the island that are great for different reasons so you can easily visit one of those. It would only be tough if you wanted to walk out of the hotel onto the beach.

Have you looked at www.tripadvisor for reviews?

We stayed at the Grand Wailea and really liked it - partially for the beach. It also never rained on our entire 10 day trip there (though we did have some wind).

If we did it again, I think we would look into getting a place with a kitchenette. Food is crazy expensive in Hawaii (even more so than NYC) and it would have been nice to cook some fresh seafood for a few meals. FM me if you have more Maui questions.

I just stayed there for my honeymoon and there IS a swimmable beach...not sure why the above poster thought there wasnt. They have a small cafe down at the beach too. We swam our 1st day.
