Riviera

Is anyone having their wedding at the Riviera in Massapequa? I am thinking of going to look at it, but I have heard that it is kind of small. I am expectig about 150 people and don't want it to be too cramped. Any other comments?

Re: Riviera

I have not been to the Riviera but I am having my reception at the Manor East. They have different rooms and can definitely hold 150 people. You should look into them.

Re: Riviera

my fiance's sister just got married at the riviera and i thought everything was beautiful but i think 150 may be tight. she had about 125 and i think there were 2 tables on the dance floor. there was also some room kind of in a back corner to put tables but she didnt use that room cause she didnt want anyone to feel too out of the way.

Re: Riviera

My FH lives near the Riv. We know many people who have held events there and liked the place. We went to check it out and found that it wasn't too small but we felt that it was dark inside and some of the place wasn't as well kept as we would have liked (upholstery worn, floor very scuffed, etc.). The place has a beautiful view of the bay and the price was quite reasonable. However, the older man who showed us around was a bit strange with us and they didn't seem to be able to accomodate our vegetarian only reception. I know many people who were very happy with the Riv. though. It's worth checking out.

Re: Riviera

We looked at the Riviera. We really liked it, however I do agree that things weren't perfect (things were worn, bathrooms not perfect) and I agree about the old man. What we really like was it seemed soooo romantic. We both felt it and he is not a romantic. I do think it is small though. We expect to have about 150 also and we thought it would be too small. I hope this helps

Re: Riviera

I am getting married at the Riviera in December.

In answer to your question regarding the number of people, I would say it depends on the time of the year. I went to a wedding at the Riviera in July that had 180 people, the cocktail hour was outside and it was beautiful. My cocktail hour will be inside, we are having about 120-130 people. I think anymore than this would be too much for the cocktail area.

Re: Riviera

When I was planning we looked at the Riviera and liked it alot but ultimately went with John Anthony's on the Water which had very similar pricing and offered similar menus..however JAs had more food at cocktail hr and IMO is better. So, don't know if a water view is your priority but I would advise you to include JAs in your search since all of the rooms have incredible views of the great south bay. Only thing is JAs has two weddings at a time which you may not like. Our room held 165 people very very comfortably..... (i think maximum capacity is 250.) Our wedding was a sat. nt and paid 93pp + tax/grats. with a minimum of 150 people but a friday nt and sat./sun day weddings were far cheaper (i think i was quoted at 70 + tax/grats for sat afternoon and i believe 100 person minimum).....priicng varies according to season same as riviera.

edited to say pricing varies according to season.

Re: Riviera

i am getting married next Nov. at the Riveria. We love the place. I think 150 may be a little cramped but you may be able to get away with it.

Re: Riviera

I got married at the Riviera this past July 4th and we had exactly 150 people and we were not at all cramped. It was absolutely beautiful and everyone commented on the fact that the set-up was very nice. Our ceremony was outside in the Gazebo and our cocktail hr was outside on the pier as well. It was absolutely beautiful and people kept ranting and raving about the place long after the wedding was over.

If there are going to be more than 150 people I suggest that you definately put 2 tables on the dance floor and have the bride and groom sitting over in the left hand corner as you're walking into the room. The room is a bit dark at night but your professional photographer should do a fine job b/c mine did. If you have further questions about the Riviera, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

Best of luck!

Re: Riviera

I've been to a few weddings at the Riviera, and while the place is beautiful, I think the beauty gets lost on a night wedding. You can't see the water at all, and it is very dark in there at night.
Plus, I feel that the food there really isn't that good. The last wedding I went to, many people were sick the next day, and hardly anyone ate the chicken that they got. It was just awful - and the beef wasn't much better.

Re: Riviera

I'm having my wedding at the Riviera next week! We have 124 ppl, and I think it'll be the perfect size. We love the Riv, basically because we found it to be as non-tacky as possible..it's rustic and romantic, and we'll have the fireplaces lit...I can't wait!!
