RK Bridal - Plus Sizes??

RK Bridal - Plus Sizes??

Hey ladies
I have been reading the plus size posts and I saw so many reccomendations for RK Bridal as far as having larger try-on sizes...
I have planned a big outing with my girls to go there tomorrow, but I just talked to them on the phone and they said that they mostly have about size 14's to try on... Which is really like a 10... But I am a 16 or 18 in regular clothes...
I am confused and upset b/c I thought they were known for having lots of dresses in bigger try-on sizes...

Is it instead just that they have a bigger 'plus size' collection than most stores?

She also told me that they have a 7 dress limit per visit.... Is it me or is that a very low number?? Especially for a girl who has no idea what is going to look good on her body type...
I asked the girl what they do if the dresses don't zip up and she basically said she didn't know what they'd do but they'd figure something out...

Its my first time dress shopping, and I am now completely discouraged and not even looking forward to dress shopping tomorrow...

I was just going say that. DB let's you try on as many dresses as you want, they don't really rush you either and I believe they have a ton of dresses to choose from.

I went to RK Bridal and I tried on a TON more than 7 dresses. I don't know about their plus-size collection, but I think what they meant is that you can only choose 7 initially, then your consultant will get you more. I definitely tried on more than 7.

Good luck!!

if you went on the weekend I think that may be why you were limited in dresses to try on. They are really busy on the weekends. If you can go on a weekday, maybe when they first open up, you will definitely be able to try on a lot more because they wont be as busy

realilistically youre not going to be able to zip up most of the dresses. I had the same problem but u can still try them on just not zip them up. i bought mine from bridal reflections in massapequa. they had a decent amount of dresses in plus size samples. i wasnt too impressed with davids bridal honestly. but that was just my experience with them. lillettes has dresses to try on it larger sizes. i was just there and they had half a wall in plus size samples. i would try them. ur not very large so u really shouldnt have a problem at most places.

i tried on about 12 dresses... the woman just kept bringing out whatever she thought would like.

don't be discouraged!!!

There is a limit but if you want to try on more, you can put your name on the list again. (When you go in you have to sign up for a dressing room)

I'm a 16/18 in regular clothes and am going dress shopping for the first time on Monday... just hitting up David's Bridal with my mom and sister (MOH). Very nervous for all the reasons you listed - no idea what's going to look good on me, what if they don't zip up, how many dresses are they going to have that I'll actually be able to try on... I'll let you know how the experience goes!

Hey, I wear about a 14/16 depending on the clothes and I was also terrified to go dress shopping for the same reasons...however I went to paradise bridals in patchogue and they were amazing! They had larger sizes (i tried on a dress that was a size 20!)...when I tried on size 12 dresses which wouldnt even come close to zipping up, my consultant used this thick elastic and made like a corset in the back so when my MOH saw me from the front view she swore the dress was zippered....I would hope that all bridal shops do this...if not, ask.

FYI, at my appt there was a girl whose MOH was a little larger than I was and she said when they went to David's Bridal they had an awful experience. She said the consultants kept making rude comments about her weight and how she shouldnt waste her time on trying on dresses because they werent going to fit...quite honestly I wouldve had to cuss someone out for such a rude comment..LOL..anyhow, my point is: when I told that story to people at my job and other friends they said they heard similar 'horror' stories from David's Bridal....not sure how true it is but figured I'd let you know so you could be prepared for ignorance if you go to David's Bridal.

Lot's of luck!

I've heard some horror stories too... Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for at least a bearable experience. I've heard good things about Paradise Bridal from my coworker who bought her dress there. Definitely want to check them out!

Ok Ladies, I am a 16/18 in normal cloths i went to RK Bridal and tried on at least 15 dresses. They have a plus size rack, most of the dresses on it are 20's and 24's. It is a relatively large rack too, so you will definitely get a lot of options. The other option if there is a dress there that is to small and you ant to see what it is like on. Have them form the top of the dress to your upper body. You'll be able to see how it will fit you through the bust and the mid-section. That is how I found my dress. i got mine at Paradise bridal. They didn't have a large selection in plus sizes but the Lady helping me was so sympathetic to my needs and made me feel totally comfortable.

RK bridal is more of a place you should go with pictures of what you like and a good idea of what you don't - if the sample doesn't fit, they will clip it to your bra - the samples I tried on were all big - not little 6 or 8s that don't even come on so no worries.

Go to Lillettes. they had larger sample sizes and try on dresses with the corset back at least you can get the dress on most of the time.

I tried on a dress @ RK and they just pin it to your bra if it doesn't zip all the way

I tried on a dress that was a 22 @ RK. DB also has lots of bigger sizes. Ignore what she told you on the phone & go anyway

So RK Bridal was a SUCCESS!
Well not that I'm sure I found 'the one' yet (though I do have a beautiful front-runner at the moment) but it was a great, fun experience. Alot of the dresses couldn't zip but it was no big deal b/c she did just do the clippy-thing and it looked great from the front! My nervousness is gone, and I will be only excited (not scared) next time I go shopping! YAY!
