I don't know why I'm feeling a little guilty - both accomplish the same exact thing!! :o)

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

I know exactly how you feel. I am having a ceremony too but feel a bit guilty about not doing the full mass.. I kinda look at it as at least I am doing it in the Church.. it takes some of the guilt away.. why we feel guilty is beyond me!! Lol

We didn't really have the option... our priest never asked us so we had the mass. I would have felt bad asking.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

Glad you posted about the guilt thing. During our first meeting with the priest we said we wanted a mass and now we're thinking just the ceremony and we're afraid of all the questioning/lecturing we may receive......

I feel (my own personal opinion) that the marriage vows should be done within the nuptial Mass. FH felt the same way. I guess it's what you are most comfortable with.
ETA: my church only performs Nuptial masses they won't do just the marriage ceremony without the mass.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

I always thought that I wanted just a ceremony, but then when I thought about it it is really the most important part of the whole day. I went with a mass because that's really the important part. Another plus for me is that i can get a lot more people involved that I would like to be involved.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

We are having a ceremony and don't feel guilty about it in the least. In fact, I think it is hysterical when friends seem shocked that we are only having a ceremony. We are not really religious any other time of the year why would we be on our wedding day. I would have been okay with having a non religious ceremony, but FH felt strongly about having it at his church.

My church only does ceremonies on Sundays, so I wasn't given the choice- I would have prefered the Nuptual Mass

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

I am having the full mass. It really is the most significant part of the day. However, if you are not really a practicing Catholic I can see why you may want the shorter ceremony.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

We all feel guilty because that is what the catholic church has instilled in us!!! GUILT is their #1 Friend. LOL!! I felt horrible when they asked us if we wanted a cermony or mass and we said ceremony!! I feel like we are not REAL catholic then but I would feel like a hipocrit if we had a mass since we hardly ever go to church.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

I don't feel guilty...just sad. I wanted a nuptial mass but my church won't do it on a Sunday. I was considering changing the date to a Saturday. I spoke to my priest and he said not to feel bad with having just a ceremony. He told me it will be just as beautiful. :)

We stuck with Sunday b/c FI isn't religious and FFIL is Jewish. We wanted him and other family members to be comfortable. Also, Dad and FI weren't in favor of a Saturday reception because it would be more expensive.

We're doing a full mass. We considered the ceremony but realize if we're having it in the church, we might as well do it all the way.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

The choice was easy for us... I'm RC and he is Greek Orthodox..... I got the cathlic church he got no mass. Besides why would we have a mass if he can not accept Communion? That's my thought

I did a full mass and it was wonderful. I wanted that way. Believe me in life AND marriage you can use all the blessings God gives you. The priest really made everyone laugh and brought us all together. It really didn't take any more than a hour and the we were on our way.

Re: Roman Catholic Brides: Having full mass or ceremony? Did you feel at first guilty with choosing short ceremony?

I don't feel guilty at all. My parents are Irish Catholic and were kind of suprised we weren't getting married in a chuch. FH & I are not religious and had no intention of having a nuptual mass. My parents we kind of dissapointed, but they got over it. We are happy in our decision.

Yes, I am and I did feel guilty. Then we met with our priest and he asked us what time the reception is and we told him - and his reaction was 'Oh good thing you have no communion, you would be short for time!' LOL!

We don't have a choice, my church does not do full masses for Sunday weddings.
