Roman Catholic Church Girls

So here is my problem...

My fiance and I moved to Smithtown. We met with Father Patrick at St Pat's in Smithtown. Our date was booked. This made me VERY sad. I can't get married at my church because of personal reasons. And my fiance's church is unavailble TOO!!!! I think i called EVERY church and NONE will let us get married there becase we don't live in teh area or we're not registered there. I even tried registering with a few and they wouldnt let me because i was on the border of other churches. do you have any advice taht can help me out? OR if you know of a church that isn't so freaking strict to let an ' outsider' in that would be great?

thanks

My church lets 'outsiders' in, lol, but it's all the way in Valley Stream. If you want more info, FM me.

I went to meet with my church today, Sts. Phillip and James in St James, and there was a piece of the documentation they gave me that is for non parishoners getting married there. I'd check them out since you're so close to smithtown. Ask for Father Tony, he was SO nice today!!!

Oh, thats good to know. That is a friend of mine's church too. I'll look into that! I was so fed up and disgusted after calling all of these churches. One priest told me he'd marry us for a 'substantial' difference in price. really... ***!

Hey – If you don’t live in the area (for the purpose of getting married in another church) usually your parish can provide a permission slip (a form allowing you to get married in another church) & you should have no problems; I suggest calling some of these places again and upon conversation telling them that you have already obtained this form due to the personal reasons you spoke of. Keep in mind that when you actually get this form you probably need to have the name of church you’re getting married in so that your parish can release you but by telling the other church(s) you have already obtained the form (for the time being) you might forgo the whole “member” speech. Usually “we” don’t know about this form and churches will make no mention of it because they want to turn away non-parishioners and there is usually a suggested donation for members and non-members that they’ll then tell you about.
If you want to become a member of a parish you should be allowed too regardless of borders and boundaries – Ask to speak to a priest – demand it or call one directly ~ highlight the fact that you want your marriage to be recognized as a sacrament, a symbol of the unity of Christ and the Church but state that you’ve been facing extreme difficulties within catholic sector of houses of worship and that you’re being left with little options other than to seek alternatives outside the catholic faith and or church – honestly I would love for them to come up with a rebuttal to this because its most certainly a prime example of practicing what you preach!! I’m a practicing catholic and I am appalled at how they treat churches like a business not a religion!!! I sent you an FM further detailing some options – Hope this all helps.

Ugh, my FH and I have had soooo many problems with the catholic church I can't even begin....However, if you do tell them you are moving to the area they might make an exception. There is also St Thomas More in Smithtown/Hauppauge area that might marry you as well. I'm getting married at St. Elizabeth's in Melville...it's worth a try. AND, good luck dealing with that business, oh, I mean church.... ;)

You might want to try St. Anthony of Padua in East Northport too. I'm a parishoner there but my FH isn't and they didn't ask us during the interview how we were connected with the church. I happened to mention it, but I don't think they would have cared either way.

Definitely worth making the phone call!

Also, just an FYI, it has the 2nd longest aisle in all of Long Island. At least that's what I was told. Talk about a grand entrance!

My church is St Patricks in Bay Shore and allows non-members. Probably too far for you.

this annoys me! We had issues at our church too because we were registered there .... it worked out in the end!

GOOD LUCK

Re: Roman Catholic Church Girls

Thanks girls... you have all been very helpful. I just left a message with Father James in the East Northport church and also Father Bennet from St. Patricks Church in Huntington. How terrible is it that I feel like I am 'shopping' around for a place of worship. I do have to say they are all making me feel so 'unwelcome' when I call. Hopefully a priest that returns my call will be understanding.

If you have any other churches taht come to mind, please let me know :)

Thanks again!

Not sure if this church is the same but were getting married at St. Patricks in Bay Shore and Neither of us were members of that praticular church and my fiance is Catholic and I'm Lutheran and they didn't give me a problem just a little extra papers we needed to get.
