My fiance and I moved to Smithtown. We met with Father Patrick at St Pat's in Smithtown. Our date was booked. This made me VERY sad. I can't get married at my church because of personal reasons. And my fiance's church is unavailble TOO!!!! I think i called EVERY church and NONE will let us get married there becase we don't live in teh area or we're not registered there. I even tried registering with a few and they wouldnt let me because i was on the border of other churches. do you have any advice taht can help me out? OR if you know of a church that isn't so freaking strict to let an ' outsider' in that would be great?
thanks

Re: Roman Catholic Church Girls
Unbelievable... ANOTHER priest called me back and told me that we can not get married at his parish because of all the catering halls in Huntington. I explained how I do not have a catering hall at the moment and he said 'I know I know... but best of luck to the both of you.' SOooo- What is up.... I am begining to lose faith over here... I need to limit my church 'searches' to suffolk county- near the northport area. I hate to search around... they are making me feel so unwanted.

Re: Roman Catholic Church Girls
i couldn't get married in my church because FH and I wanted a full wedding mass and they only performed the ceremony.
my FH church is more of a chapel than a real church and is very small so we couldn't get married there.
we visited over 13 churches until we found one that we loved. We chose St. Ephrem and neither one of us is a parishoner there nor are we registered there but we did have to get letters of permission for our respective churches to be allowed to marry outside of our registered parish.
Also, the fee for getting married there was higher since we were not registered.
all churches that we have been to have been the same, we can get married there and pay a higher price as long as we get those letters from our church. i'm surprised none of the churches near you do the same.
good luck and keep looking! and if you registered at another chruch, there is no reason why they will not let you get married there! i would call again and ask to speak to the pastor to see if they can take a look at your file again

Re: Roman Catholic Church Girls
I called a zillion churches, I live in Huntington and originally wanted to stay local, if you PM your email I'll send you my spreadsheet of where I called. St Francis of Assis in Greenlawn was really nice to me.

What about St. Joseph's in kings park - since you live in smithtown or christ the king in commack
CTK is very strict. I know you have to be a registered parshioner, btu maybe its worth a call. Father Joe is a very nice guy.

Re: Roman Catholic Church Girls
We're getting married at St. Philip Neri in Northport and neither of us belonged to the parish and it was not a problem to get in. Sister Grace has been wonderful to work with and it is a very pretty church.

If you got for Christ the in in commack DON'T call asking if the date is open. They will not tell you. You need to go in and meet with the deacon and after you meet the will check your date in a book.

Re: Roman Catholic Church Girls
We got a church!!!! Thank you everyone for your help. Sister Grace & Father Gary at St Philips Neri in Northport was so incredibly helpful! Sister called me and added me to their appointment book right away! I meet with the priest in July because they are changing priests. Would this make anyone nervous? I kind of feel like I want to meet with someone so my date is 'secure' even though she said it would be.

Hey!! Congrats on finding a church!!!!! Call the church and state your concerns (which are very legit reasons) now that you're penciled in ask if you can meet with another priest beforehand so that he can pass on your file to the next one. If they reassure you that everything will be done in time, I think you'll be fine ~ just keep checking in every couple months or so or drop by to attend a service and/or say hello so they get familiarized with you.
