Roman Catholic Officiant

Roman Catholic Officiant

We are having an interfaith ceremony (Jewish and Catholic) at Oheka. I have received some names of Catholic priests who will officiate, but would prefer a Roman Catholic priest. Typically, they do not perform weddings outside of a church, but I was hoping that one of you may know someone who does.

I was told the ONLY way was to get a dispensation from the Bishop. Luckily for you, I was also told that they only allow it in cases of interfaith marriages. (We're both catholic so they won't perform an outdoor ceremony, which is what we're having.) I would suggest going to your local parish and asking them to help you.

I heard the same thing about the Bishop. We're having a catholic priest perfom our cermony outside at Atlantica...They share the same belief system, so it was okay with us.

The Catholic is required to get dispensation... That's the *only* way an RC Priest who is STILL with the church will co-officiate. (I did this 1 1/2 years ago).

There have been numerous posts on this if you can search - otherwise, I'd be happy to answer any questions if you want to FM me.

Good luck!

I am also getting married at Oheka (10-5-03). I got engaged this December and spent Jan and Feb tring to fing a Catholic priest who will come to the Hall. NO LUCK!!! I even went with my parents to ST. Agnes Church to speak with a Colombian Priest (we are also Colombian) who has preformed various religious services throughout the years for our family, and even he WOULD NOT DO IT!! I can give you the alternatives:

Getting married a few weeks earlier at your church and still hiring an outside 'Marrying Priest' to come to the church and preform a ceremony. Sort of a double ceremony.

The priest who the castle give you WILL NOT GIVE YOU THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.
In other words, your marriage is not recognized by the Church. It would not be written on your Certificate of Baptisim.

I tried a different route.... I got a letter from my Bishop, stating he would allow me to get married at a different church. I them spoke with the Syosset church and they were willing to marry us there for $600. The Woodbury church will do it BUT, a priest from YOUR church has to go to their church and preform the sevice and take care of all the arrangements. You would have to pay both priests.
However, my church would not allow their priests to go to any other church!!!

Finally, after all the running around and agravation and disapointment within my own church rules, I am not getting married at a church. I hired a marring priest to marry us at the hall. A few months down the road, we may go to our local church and as them to marry us in thier CHAMBER- especially once my FI found out about PRE-CANA!!!

I hope this is helpful.

P.S. the priest I hired is from Freeport and less expensive than the one Oheka recomends. Let me know if you want his number.
