Shenandoah Nat'l Park Cabins; Charlotsville VA (Home of Dave Matthews and Awesome, Cozy Restaurants); Any B&B on the River; Massanutten Ski Lodge in Harrisonburg; Swanky Boutique-Style Hotel in Washington D.C. (~1.5 hours on Rte 66); Harper's Ferry (my choice). Virgina, especially along Rte 81 has some of the most beautiful, romantic opportunities. MMMMM....so cozy. Have fun!

Sparta, NC is right on the border of VA and a teeny tiny town in the mountains. My FH and I live in Durham, NC and went there for a weekend.
We ended up spending $125/night for a jacuzzi room. It's an isolated area, but we spent our time mostly hiking and horseback riding. The food at the B&B we stayed in--the Glade Valley B&B--was amazing. We never ate lunch, despite going on very long hikes every day because breakfast carried us over until we went out to a late dinner.
The B&B has amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There's a good number of state/national parks in the area and it's a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway (that part of it may or may not be open, depending on weather. I'd ask the inn keepers).
There's also a lot of wineries in the area and NC wine can be very good...
I highly recommend it!

Yea, I live in Northern VA and we went on a weekend getaway to the Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge mountains abouat a month ago http://www.wintergreenresort.com/ A lot of people go there to ski, but we we went there in the fall and hiked. It was really romantic. They have all different types of accomodations there and we stayed in a condo up on of mountains. It was really romantic. We went to the spa (great spa!), dinner at the nice restaurant there (amazing food), and we had a fireplace in our condo.

Second on the Wintergreen. It's gorgeous up there. You could also go to the Greenbriar but you'll drop a ton of money going there. You could also go the the Inn at Little Washington out in Middleburg (this is more NOVA, but LOVELY).
