I am completely confused as to room block pricing. I just called 2 hotels for prices if I do a room block with them and one told me 2.00 less that what is listed on their site (same night as my wedding) and the other was 9.00 MORE that what is listed on their site. Why is this?? Am I missing the point of room blocks here? I thought the point was to get a group discount. I am lost.

Re: Room Block CONFUSION!
Our room block at The Melville Marriott dropped the regular price by $70 per night. They are holding about 30 rooms for us the night before, the night of and the night after.

Re: Room Block CONFUSION!
it's partially to get a group rate and partially to make sure that rooms are available to your guests.
you should try to negotiate with them

Thanks girls! Yea, I find it odd that one only lowered the price by 2.00 and the other RAISED the price! I know its partially to ensure people get a room, but I also know that most of the time they give a nice group rate. I'll have to figure this out

Re: Room Block CONFUSION!
You should have a discount and they should document it!!!
Also, find out what happens if you dont book all the rooms.. you should not have to cover that!!
