Room Blocking?

Room Blocking?

How exactly does this work? I put my interest out to a couple of different hotels for myself and possible others. They want you to book at least 10 rooms, do you pay for them in advance? Or does that just hold them and the others book them? And if you don't fill the 10 rooms am I responsible? TYIA!

no you dont book them the guests do they uisually give a discounted rate and little papers to put in the invites with a group code....your guests call and use the code to get the special rate

if you dont book all 10 rooms you are not responsible...they just go back into the system for other people to book....they usually give u 4-6 weeks before the wedding to book

i booked with the marriott in melville. I chose to block out 15 rooms and we are responsible for 7 of them, meaning, if only 6 of the 7 rooms get taken then we have to pay for that one room. We got a discounted rate of $155 (normally its $190). They also took my credit card info just to hold the rooms but nothing was charged to it.

It depends on the hotel.
Where I placed my block, we blocked 20 rooms and we do not pay for anything if they are not booked. About a month before the wedding, the rooms are released if they have not been reserved and guest have to pay at the regular rates ($40 more per night)

We have a block of rooms reserved with our hotel (no CC required)... but any rooms not used by 4/13 will be dropped from our block & guests lose the opportunity for the discounted rate. I put this on my direction/info card in my invite (to book hotel by this date for a discounted rate of $149 per night)... HTH

It depends on the hotel. I called a bunch when we were looking and they all had different policies. For most of the ones I looked at, we had to guarantee a certain amount would be booked or we'd be charged for a percentage of them.

I will FM you my research. I ended up blocking rooms in the Homewood Suites and the Exec. Inn since they had a free shuttle. The minimum to block was 10 rooms, the discount was very good!

Most hotels should not require you to guarantee any rooms will be booked. If they do I wouldn't use them. I blocked rooms for Family Weekend at a University last year at over 30 hotels, and none require any financial committment. They simply sign a contract with you that they will hold X number of rooms at X rate for your group until a certain date (usually about a month before). Your guests need to indicate that they are with your group and book before the date to get in the block. Some offer perks depending on how many rooms you get, like for ours, if we fill our block, our wedding night suite is the block price (about $150 difference!). Others will give you a shuttle, etc.
