When did/do you block rooms? Will hotels do them 8 months in advance? TIA

Re: Room blocks...
Hotels will do them 8 months in advance. I blocked rooms at the Huntington Hilton over a year ago and it is fine.

Yes, the Hyatt usually does room blocks 12-18 mos in advance. We did ours one year before our date.

Re: Room blocks...
We actually just blocked our rooms this past weekend since the rooms are limited at The Inn at East Wind and it's a holiday weekend. (jeanla4c- M&D got you a room if you read this)

Re: Room blocks...
Do it early- I know the ones at east wind were taken quickly- some guests were upset- but we took what was left- and we have rooms at the best western riverhead

How many rooms do you need to block in order to have a hotel do it for you?
Is there generally a minimum?

Re: Room blocks...
I booked my hotel over a year in advance b/c we're getting married in the summer and I didn't want to run into problems with summer vacations, etc. I booked at the Holiday Inn Express in Hauppauge off the LIE.

Re: Room blocks...
My wedding isn't until july 20, 2007 and we blocked rooms off already. The rooms are blocked off in their computer system, but guests can not call up until a year prior to the date of our wedding.

I called two hotels and they blocked between 10-15 rooms. You don't have to pay for them....if no one uses them they just release them for other people to book
