Room Blocks - responsible for difference??

Room Blocks - responsible for difference??

I got an email today from my venue with some details about the room block rules/rates. I was a little surprised that it said:

*There is a 70% guarantee of the total contracted room nights that must be met by the 30-day prior to the group arrival date reservations cut-off date. If the guarantee is not met by this date then the group contact will be held responsible for the difference of the guarantee not met.

Is this common??

I think it's common in situations like yours (and mine) where the hotel is on-site. I had the same thing at the East Wind. Luckily, all my rooms booked, so we didn't have to worry. All of the off-site hotels we contacted didn't have this as part of the contract, it was no obligation.

We didnt have that in our contract for 3VI. But I'm pretty sure we will have no problem with meeting the requirement.

I guess as long as I plan carefully, it'll be fine. I'm pretty sure I can ask around and get some pretty definite answers beforehand so I don't have to stress too much. I'd rather not stress at all though!! Some of FH's family is a little flaky but I guess I will just NOT count them in the # of rooms I give them to block.

I would ask around and see who plans on staying. Get a general idea, that might help!

Yes. I forgot what the percentage I that needs to be met and if it isn't you pay the difference. We made sure we asked our guest who would be staying so we knew how many rooms to book.

The few hotels we met with didnt have this stipulation. But I am low-balling the number of rooms just to make sure we aren't responsible for any rooms and if I hear that the rooms booked up quickly I can add rooms to the block. I know many friends who said they did this.

It differs by hotel. I made sure mine didnt hold us responsible for any amount because I don't think many will use it, but it varies from place to place.

Did you check to see if that was in the contract you signed with them originally? If it was not in that contract, I would fight them on it regardless.

When I blocked our rooms the hotel did not mention anything about what you're describing. I looked over my contract and did not see anything. First thing in the morning I'm calling the hotel to double check.

Yeah if they didnt mention it when you signed I would question it before you agree to it.
