Room Reservations

My future mother-in-law insists that book a block of rooms for out of towners coming to my wedding. She doesnt know exactly how many I would need from her side of the family, but she gave me a rough estimate of between 6-8 rooms. She said it is the responsibility of the bride and groom to reserve the rooms. Does this mean holding them with a credit card? I spoke to my mother and she insisted that I dont hold the room with my card because people might feel that the room is being paid by the bride and groom. How is this situation traditionally handled...??

Room Reservations

I'm pretty sure that at most hotels you don't have to put a credit card down at all to block the rooms. They usually hold the rooms under a wedding block and then give you a cutoff date (about a month before the wedding) for your guests to reserve. If they don't reserve by then, those rooms are released to the general public. I'm in the process of looking for rooms for my wedding as well, so this is what I've found out so far. Hope it helps.

Room Reservations

Thank you Colleen..that does help a little, but is it my job to do the reservations? Someone told me it is actually the grooms mom who should do reservations for her side..and I can take care of my side??? Also, how far before the wedding do you reserve the rooms?

Room Reservations

It makes sense for just one of you to reserve the rooms since you're guests get a better price wiht group rates. It's silly for you both the call the same hotel to reserve rooms for your own side of the family. When you do it depends on the time of year for the wedding. I got married last May and many of the hotels near the reception were already booked. You shoul dcheck into it as soon as possible.

Room Reservations

From what I understand, if no one else volunteers, it is the bride's responsiblity to check out availabilty of the nearest hotels and "block off rooms", not book them. From previous weddings that I attended, two hotels were given as options to me, one was a moderate or budget hotel, and one was a slightly more expensive hotel.

Room Reservations - Dorothy?

Dorothy,

If I remember from some of your earlier postings you got married at the Swan Club. I'm also having my reception there and am planning from out of town. Could you recommend the hotel you used near the Swan Club. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Room Reservations - Dorothy?

Tanya - Yes, that's me. I hope you love your wedding at the Swan Club as much as I loved mine! The hotel I finally used -wasn't close to the Swan Club. There's a hotel called The Roslyn Clairmont 625-2700, the East Norwich Inn 922-1500, the Garden City hotel 747-3000. I hope this helps!

-> Dorothy,
