Room setups at Thatched Cottage and/or Riviera

Room setups at Thatched Cottage and/or Riviera

I am seeking advice (and photos, if you have) regarding how to set up the room at the Riviera in Massapequa or the downstairs room at Thatched Cottage in Centerport for a large (175-200+) wedding. I really like both places but am concerned about putting our guests in inaccessible and/or awkward places.

At Riviera, they told us the max # with a band was around 180; with a DJ they say they can fit 200. I am wondering if anyone on this list has had those kinds of #s there and how the seating arrangements worked out. I am concerned about that right-hand side of the room (as you're looking in) where it curves back. It seems to be that people might end up having to climb over one another to get to their seats and might not be able to see what's going on with the bride and groom.

Re Thatched Cottage, they said our party would be in the downstairs room, which also has sort of an odd shape to it. We were thinking we'd have to put families on the larger (more accessible) side and friends on the other side, which is more tucked away and closer to the band, but I'm having trouble visualizing how that would really work out.

If anyone could shed some light on either of these situations (I'd love to see photos if you have), I'd be most appreciative. Thanks!

In all honesty, i think that if you''re having a large group, you may want to continue your search. I mean, I''m sure you can work it out, but I chose those two halls in the beginning of my search, too and decided against it after talking to people. I know people who have sat in that awkward spot at the Riviera and felt as though they missed all the action and were ''given the shaft.'' Thatched Cottage has really low ceilings too, so I think it may be somewhat claustrophobic. I don''t know. I don''t want to discourage you, but perhaps you should continue looking. I went from definitely wanting a place on the water, to narrowing it down to TC and Riviera to choosing the Vineyard! Good luck. I''m sure no matter what you decide, you will find a way to make things work.

I've sat in the awkward spot at the Riviera and it's not fun. We couldn't see or hear what was happening on the dance floor.

Thatched downstairs....

I sat 1 table away from the dance floor at the Thatched and we still couldn't hear the speeches or see anything (not even the bride and groom for most of the wedding). I felt a little claustrophobic too because of the ceilings. It was also very stuffed with about 186. Good Luck

Same for us at the Thatched Cottage... there were about 175 at the wedding we went to there & as friends we sat in that smaller area & also felt that we missed a lot of what was happening. It was the first time in ages that our group was not up & dancing & I think it was because we were so ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''detached''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''.
