Rough day (long)

Rough day (long)

So I rarely post about my personal life, but I feel like I have to share this with someone and there is no one around!

I got a phone call during work today where my mom was telling me how my Uncle decided to 'give up' his fight with cancer and that he wanted to die. My Uncle is the Great man ever, and in order to keep this post short I won't tell the the million reasons i feel this way. He never smoked a day in his life. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooo depressing.

Luckily on my way home from work my dad called saying Uncle pete changed his mind and is having the surgery he needs. This means he will never be able to speak again and will have a tube sticking out of his throat forever. I am so gald he decided this though and hope tomorrows surgery goes well.

And all day long i felt soo selfish since I kept thinking about how it would stink that he wouldn't be at my wedding, and how i so want him to be there. I DID NOT voice this concern to anybody. I felt so bad that i was turning this into something about me.

thanks for listening

I don't think you were being selfish at all. You just want someone you care about to be with you on an important day. DH's dad is in a similar situation. He's struggling with cancer and its frustrating when it sounds like he's giving up. I'm happy to hear that your uncle is getting the surgery he needs. He will learn to communicate in other ways and i'm sure he'll be so happy to see you get married.

My prayers go out to you, your family and your uncle!
I can understand you being upset...your uncle is an important person in your life so you would want him to be part of your special day!

I hope everything goes well with his surgery!

Don't feel that way. It's normal. We just found out 4 weeks ago my aunt (mom sister) has breast cancer- stage 3. She knew about this since last yr and never told anyone. In a matter of 2 weeks she started chemo, lost all her hair, and sn't doing well. Last night she slipped out and told my mom they cancer is spreadin to her bones. I'm in pain while writing this because the first thing I asked my mom when I found out is if she would be able to make it to the wedding or not. This is the first I am sharing this with anyone also. I didnt even tell FH.

It's normal. Like me you just want your uncle to be there with you to celebrate.

But understand it's hard for them to be going through this and they probaly feel terrible to that they can't make it to your wedding.

Just be there with him as much as you can before the wedding, do something nice in his honor during the ceremony or something os he will know you appreciate him.

My aunt lived a great long life and went into the hospital 5 days before she died. One of the last things she said, was that she was sorry she wouldn't be at our weddings.

I can only offer these because it's a difficult situation all around.
Just lost my Uncle a year ago to cancer so I totally understand you wanted to hold on to him.
I hope his surgery goes well. We will be thinking of you.
