Okay, Royalton brides...I have some off-putting news to share about the Royalton.
A friend of mine went to a wedding there this past weekend and had some interesting things to share. The good news is that he thought almost everything was wonderful (food, layout, etc). The one big problem he had was with the bartenders and the bar.
He said that the bartenders at the main bar during the cocktail area were really rude and not only to the younger folks, but to the older folks too. I remember Gerard said that they don't have 'kids' bartending - only professionals. Well, professionals is one thing, but being jerks is another. My friend told me that they reminded him of off-duty cops - complaning about how many drinks you ordered, telling people they couldnt get their drinks there, and just being very unpleasant.
He said that they actually started cutting people off at even the slightest hint they were a little typsy. I've never heard of such a thing at a wedding. Granted, I don't want everyone getting drunk at my wedding, but I want people to feel comfortable drinking and having a little fun if they want to.
This was so disappointing to hear.
I'm definitely going to talk to Gerard about it. Hopefully, it's something that we'll have time to avoid.

Oh no--that's not good!!! We're also going to have a second bar set up inside the ballroom--I hope we don't have that problem!

Ok Royalton Brides to be... I have some bad news.
Here goes.. and be warned...
I saw a post on here awhile back about the bartenders at the Royalton. (see above...)
Secondly-- I recently spoke with a photographer we were interested in--which was a whole other thing written about on another board. .... ( I overheard one of their young lead photographers say something EXTREMELY negative about us).---but I spoke with some of the people who who had shot a wedding there recently. The good news is, that they said it was gorgeous for photos--the bad news is... that they had nothing good to say about the bartenders AGAIN. They had said that they were actually CARDING people at the bar. And not people that looked like they were young, but people that were 35 and older--to restrict the number of drinks (and the amount of alcohol) they served.
I would (and will) absolutely take this up with Michael and Gerard before we get married there in March. While I know they have a liquor license to perserve-- WHO EVER HEARD OF CARDING PEOPLE AT A WEDDING????

Re: Royalton feedback greatly appreciated
This is very strange feedback to receive. My cousin has been to 2 weddings at the Royalton very recently (one just this past weekend). She had nothing but good things to say about the bartenders (and she was being purposefully nit-picky because I wanted to make sure everything would be ok for my upcoming wedding at the Royalton) Anyway, she said that the bartenders were fantastic...during the cocktail hour she never had to wait for a drink and during the reception she never had to even go up for a drink because the waiters were so attentive. Plus she was with a group of people who got pretty drunk and there was absolutely no restricting whatsoever on what they drank. It just seems very strange to me for there to be such conflicting reviews of one particular part of a wedding. She was actually LOOKING for things to say that were negative so that I can make them better for my wedding, but she had nothing negative to say about the bartenders at all.....strange.

Maybe different bartenders were working on those separate occasions?

Do you think that someone had already complained to Gerard and they tried to correct this issue? I sure hope so.. I will not be happy paying an arm & a leg per person just to have my guests drinks cut off

I spoke with Michael about the Bartender situation. He said that the wedding where the person was cut off was because the girl (I think) was extremely intoxicated and she was in the bathroom throwing up for a long time. When she came back out, she wanted another drink and they said no. From what Michael said, she didn't stay for the entire reception...she got in a cab and went back to the hotel. He said in that case, yes, they did cut her off, but only because she was too drunk. He also said that other people at the party had to tell her she couldnt drink anymore either.
Now I am not sure of how true this is because I was not there, but this is what I was told...

Hello everyone! I was there last night to pick my menu and brought up the bartender issue. I heard the same story about the woman throwing up, and they assured me that they are only there to help us have a wonderful party.
Everything was great--the outside gardens looks AMAZING and I can't wait for outdoor pics. The food sounds incredible and I'm sure the tasting will be delic.
BUT there was one big downside. When we signed the contract, we were told that we had the mansion for the entire day, even though our wedding starts at 7pm. This is not exactly true, and to be honest, I'm pretty disappointed about it. There is another event in the afternoon and that limits where we can and can't go. I'm getting there around noon for hair and makeup. My photographer is coming at 3:30--but the first event ends around 4:30!!!! This is not ideal and I'm really bummed out.
Because of this 'mix up' we did get a few things thrown in, but still....

Re: Royalton feedback greatly appreciated
Oh no! thats terrible! When you signed do you remember anyone saying anything about the possibility of there being an afternoon event as well as yours? Are you going to be able to use the bridal suite etc? Or is it another wedding????
If they didn't tell you, then thats a really bad business practice, and a huge disappointment because the Royalton is such a nice space. I know that when I signed there was (and still is) no additional party prior to mine. I dont remember if they mentioned something about there being a possibilty of an earlier event but will have to ask my FH. He was there and is great at the whole negotiating thing.
keep us updated on what happens!
If you dont mind me asking.. what did you get thrown in for this massive disappointment?

Re: Royalton feedback greatly appreciated
We were DEFINITELY told there was nothing else that day, and I was incredibly disappointed. It is an engagement party from noon-4:30 and they only have access to the parents room and not the bridal suite or groom's suite, but STILL! We can take any pics in the ballroom, in the lobby, or in the front of the royalton until around 5pm.
We did get a few things thrown in that would have been extra otherwise and that helps, but it's just not the same.
