RP: DIY Flowers or Florist.....(esp those who DIY Flowers)

Hi Ladies....

I can really use your help....(esp. those who did DIY Flowers)

I just came back from a florist to price out and was quoted $800 for:

1 bridal bok orchids and roses
5 BM boks roses
2 Jr BM boks
FG Petals

1 FH Bout.
5 GM Bout

and 3 parents corsages

now....i was going to do all the flowers myself and just use roses...it would probably cost me about $80....but then obviously i would have to stay up the nite before and do them all....

do you think its worth the stress and headache...or should i cough up the the $$...

HELP!!! i cant decide

although i did not diy my flowers, i do have a few things to say that might help you decide.

do you know of anyone who knows flowers? maybe you can 'hire' that person

maybe you can go to a local school (high school, community college, community center) where they can provide the work for a lot less money.

also, you don't have to 'stay up all night'. i used to work at a flower shop in highschool and flowers can keep for long enough that you could do them early the day before and just keep them in the refrigerator.

let me also add this:

$800 is about how much i spent for about the same amount of flowers.

maybe you can diy other things to save money to pay for the flowers. that's what i did. i didn't want to have green fingers on my wedding from de-thorning roses the day before my wedding.

i diy-ed everything from my invites, to my cps, to my aisle runner. you can save money there, that way $800 on flowers won't hurt so much.

Did you go to Burton's yet? Also try Stop and Shop floral department. i think Whole Foods also does flowers.

My sister had DIY flowers at her wedding- but it was more like my moms best friend DIY. They were beautiful, but she also does flower and craft shows as a hobby. My mom is not having me do them ourselves cus of space for refridgerating the flowers and space for where to put them all. I went to stop and shop and Burtons. At Burtons I think I am getting more than you listed and it is about $645. And they deliver! I am haing DIY center pieces though. But my two friends are helping me and will be there day of to set them up.
Basically I think you should give yourself less to worry about the day of so you can enjoy!

I just posted about flowers. I am doinng it myself and for the $800 you were quoted, I would be getting over 700 roses. You could ask for some help from your wedding party. It should not take that long. At least that is what I hoping and we will be putting together 700 roses the da b4 the wedding. We will be doing all the decorations. If you think it will give you a headache then don't bother but if not...... more money for the honeymoon or a down payment on a house or to go shopping

I'm doing my own flowers, and will be paying about $400 for 400 roses, including FedEx. We're not going to stay up the night before, the flowers come two days before the wedding. I'll be stripping the flowers the day they arrive, along with a few helpers. Yeah, it will take a while, but I think it's worth it, and I hope it will actually be fun! The day before we're going to put together the bouquets and centerpieces. Freshroses.com says they don't have to be refrigerated, just in water--although we'll make sure to keep them in a cool room. I've read great reviews on the Knot about them, so I'm praying it all works out OK! Yes, it's a gamble, but it really is a lot of money saved, and I know it will kill me to spend so much more money knowing I could have done them myself. And especially since I keep reading about brides who aren't all that happy with thier flowers, they don't get what they asked for, etc.

800 is nothing for flowers. Save yourself the headache, and go with a florist.
