RP from 08: 10 things I learned from planning my wedding and getting married!
What I learned from planning my wedding and getting married:
1) The ups and downs of wedding planning will make you stronger and will teach you things about your FH if you let them.
2) Enjoy planning. All of the hard work is for the one day of our life where you will proclaim your love, seal your future and have your family and friends together. Make it special, make it you and enjoy every step.
3) Add special touches for your guests, especially those from OOT. This will seal the fact that your wedding will be remembered.
4) It's not the amount of money you spend, it's the meanings behind things and the union of two people that really matters.
5) Choose vendors you trust and go with your gut. These people can make or break your day. Don't stress over negative reviews (there are two sides to every story). You choose these people for a reason. And let them do their jobs. They are professionals, we're just obsessed brides! Allow them to provide input. Let them help you. (PS - I love each and every single vendor I worked with because I chose each one for a reason.)
6) Accept that not everything can be perfect. That's life, that's weddings. And it's beautiful if you really think about it.
7) The things you think aren't perfect will not matter the day of. And they might actually make you laugh and smile.
8) Remain calm. While planning and especially throughout the day of. If you don't, you'll miss things. Capture every single moment the day of. Take it all in. It's a beautiful experience.
9) At some point in your ceremony and during your reception, sneak away with your husband and watch. Look at Grandma dance, watch your cousin nearly dive into the chocolate fountain. Observe people having fun. They're having fun at the party you threw, the party you planned, and the party in celebration of your union. Enjoy it. It's beautiful. It's special. Take it all in.
10) Be who you are. Be who you are as a couple. Do not get caught up in what bridal magazines say, what other girls are doing, what family says is right. It's your day. Do it your way. Make it your own. It's your party. You'll never have another party like it. Go big or go home. And I don't mean financially big. Go big with your heart, go big with your love for one another. Make it the best day of your lives.
Enjoy it. If it rains, consider if a gift from up above. If Aunt Mildred can't make it, know she is there in spirit. Don't let little things bring you down. It is your day. Take it in. Smile. Laugh. Cry. Be yourself.
These are my words of wisdom. My wedding was the best day of my life. Not one thing went wrong. I smiled. I laughed. I cried. I loved every second and I hope each and every one of you girls has the same experience.
