My FH and I are also going to Hawaii and i am trying very hard to stick to our budget of $3000 (hotel, airfare and car) (for about 10 days. I am defianetly a DIY when it comes to travel and so far ive found plenty of resources to good bargains. It just takes alot of research. If you can, pick up a Fodors Hawaii book - theres tons of money saving tips and also the Entertainment Book - you can get big savings on car rentals and hotels - some are even at 50% off. We went for 2 weeks, to Maui and Kauai, - and rented Condos instead of staying at a hotel. Took some time to research it (didn't go through a TA), but condos are cheaper than hotel rates - especially on Kauai! And they're alot bigger, we had a 1 bedroom apartment basically in Maui, and literally a house right on the water in Kauai.

Two weeks, plus flights, it was all under $6K. Of couse, that didn't count what we spent went we got there.....
