So I have a really big dilemna. I have two choices in halls. Both have the same positives and each has one negative.
The First Choice - Negative: Located in the Hudson Valley (2 hours from my house and have to go through the city=traffic to get there). Would have to either travel there all the time to meet with each vendor or book vendors here and have them travel there (this will add a lot of expense.
The Second Choice - Negative: His parents are kosher. We would be able to bring in a kosher caterer, but the wine would have to be non-kosher bc it would be at a vineyard. The kosher caterer would be allowed to bring in kosher beer and alcohol.
Which do you think I should go with and why?

I think the vineyard would be the least stressful of the two. The only thing non-kosher would be the wine. Do you think his parents would be ok with that? It's a small issue in the grand scheme of things...especially if there will be other kosher drink options.
which vineyard??

I agree with going with the vineyard, why should you drive yourself even more nuts with driving back and forth out of your way, when you are already going to be stressed with planning

Vineyard. It seems to be less stressful... and more accommodating.

We havent picked a vineyard yet. We love Macari but we aregoing to go out there and just drive up and down the two main roads and stop in.
I think his parents would dislike the fact that the wine is not kosher, but I dont know HOW against it they would be.
But at the same time, how much can I inconvenience myself for this whole kosher thing?
I think I'm just going to havta find some way to break the news to them.

it seems like a tough decision, but I would go with the vineyard. you don't want to have to deal with the stress of the traffic on the wedding day, not to mention driving up there to meet with vendors.

Re: RP from BHB: Help! Dont know what to do!
you have been struggling with this decision for a while now and i think that you are all going to have to meet somewhere in the middle. i would suggest having it at the vineyard. at least the caterer is kosher! i think having it 2 hours away from your home is a major inconvenience for you and lets be serious.. its your wedding.
i think that you FILs are going to have to be a little flexible.. like you said how much trouble are you supposed to go through for this kosher thing, its not like you are being completely disrespectful and inconsiderate and completely going against the kosher food!!!
good luck!!!

Re: RP from BHB: Help! Dont know what to do!
my FH is muslim and his whole family doesnt drink alcohol (its even illegal in the country they currently live). .......my family and friends are russian....we drink....a lot. he told them that their table will only have non-alcoholic drinks. they were ok with it.
compromises have to be made. you cant please everyone. if you LOVE th vineyard then i think his parents will be ok with it. esp since the food and other liquor is kosher.

I agree with everyone else that the vineyard is your best bet. It is less stressful, and closer to your house and you don't have to worry about the traffic!
I honestly don't think that the wine issue is that big of a deal, you are having other kosher drinks,

I also agree with everyone. It would be much easier to accomodate for your guests at the vineyard. It's not hard to find kosher wine, at least in my experiences. On the otherhand, being 2 hrs away from the other rh is a bigger deal. It's especially inconvient for you. But it's important to choose the rh that you really love. So make your decision based on that too.

i would go with the vineyard, at least the food will be kosher (and i think thats the most important part!), and its better than having to have you and your guests travel 2 hours to the place in hudson valley... i know you have been struggling to find a place to accomodate your families for a while, so i hope all works out for you, keep us updated!

I say the Hudson Valley!
First, I did not have a good experience with my vineyard eparty. It was such a pain in the a$$ trying to get all the vendors out there, therefore, its just as difficult as anything else. Plus, since it was on the North Fork, all the vendors jack up their prices b/c they think your some sort of hamptons rich biatch. I don't know, maybe I am just bias.
Hudson Valley has everything your looking for and it seems like they can accomodate kosher food and beverages.

The Hudson Valley place can accomodate kosher bc its just a rental of the place (just like a vineyard). I would still have to bring in all the vendors separately. Our kosher caterer would be coming from nassau county.
Ahhhh! Its just so frustrating. Why does his family havta be kosher???

Pam, was the destination wedding idea still in by any chance? I know you were thinking of that at some point.
I would just sit down w/ his parents and discuss the fact that you're trying to accomodate their kosher needs and you were able to find an option that would be able to provide kosher food but not the wine.. but, other beer and alcohol would be available... i mean there needs to be some sort of compromise somewhere!

The idea of the destination wedding is deff still in play but we're trying to come up with some option here.
I think fh and I will try to talk to them.

yea it seems like you've got yourself quite the pickle...if i had to pick... i'd probably go with the vineyard because it's your wedding and you're already serving kosher food and other kosher beverages
