RP: Not allowed to have music at the church..NEED HELP

I am Catholic Ukrainian. The traditions in my church are eastern right and very very very traditional. Therefore, all music in the church must be sung (no instruments). The problem that I'm having is # 1-I was told I could have an organist and then, after church today, the priest tells me that I can't and # 2-what the heck songs do you sing???? I wanted Canon in D played...that is obviously not going to work. And FH does not want Ave Maria. Now what????? And, where do I get singers????

Re: RP: Not allowed to have music at the church..NEED HELP

there are groups that sing acapella...you may want to look at some of the universities and the students there who sing in those groups.

You won't get Cannon in D but you could get some really pretty classical acapella songs.

I was thinking about the high school students from my high school (my mom still works there), but I am just concerned that they won't know any songs. I think college students might know more! Good suggestion. Thanks!

I sang in these groups in high school and had a pretty good group. You can go listen to them rehearse if they are preparing anything right now and maybe ask their choral director for some suggestions. Are you restricted for songs? Do they have to be religious songs or can they be popular?

Colleges definitely have this too..start with the music program at nassau community or hofstra maybe?

Try Five Towns College in Dix Hills, it's a music school.
