I posted this on the BHB board. Hoping to get a better response...
So, I had my first photographer appointment today. I love his work and style (photojournalistic with a bit of traditional). Not only does he have a wonderful personality but FH and I feel real comfortable with him. The quote he gave us I thought was reasonable. However, I can't stop to wonder if I'm way over my head on this one. Let me break it down and let me know what you guys think and PLEASE feel free to fm or post your package/price.
1 photographer and 1 assistant 10hrs coverage 3 dvd movies printable dvd data disk (contains all proofs) engagement session wedding photo guest book 100 thank you cards 10x10 coffee style book (60 pgs with 60-100 images)
all of this for...ready for this...about 6,500 We originally assigned 5000 for our photo budget and we're not sure if we're going to have a videographer. FH and I have 3 more photographer appts tomorrow. But I'm so ready to book with the first one. I'm beginning to hate wedding planning again

Re: RP: Photographer prices
Thanks everyone for your input. From your responses, it seems as if I could get a package priced way less. 6500 is def way too much especially since FH and I are paying the bulk of the wedding ourselves. BTW, I'm going to look into velvet too and see what they offer. Thanks!

well since we get all the proofs, I'll probably make them one off snapfish or shutterfly. It will be cheaper.
There ya go! Once they give you those proofs, you can do anything!
I haven't met with Velvet yet. Do you get the proofs and negatives?

Not sure about the negatives. THey uses film and then transfer them into a digital file. He doesnt like using a digital camera because too often files become corrupt and you lose pictures. ( I thought that was good). So then he transfers all the images onto a cd for you.

sweetie if a videographer is not included in that package then don't take it.
I would have to agree. If the videographer was included I would say that is a good price but otherwise I think it's a little steep for only the photographer.

OH that's really good. So I can make reprints and put together the parent albums myself! Finally a DIY project I may actually do.

Thats what i plan to do. Taking the parent albums out of the budget cut the budget by $900. I can make the on shutterfly for $50 each!
