How many weeks before your wedding date is a 'proper' time limit for responses?

Re: RSVP??
My wedding date is May 31st...and my RSVP date is April 28th. I set it a bit earlier because people can just SUCK at that!
Edited to add: I think the proper limit is no less than 4 weeks.

Re: RSVP??
the earlier the better. ALWAYS build in 2 extra weeks- lots of people will wait till the very, very last second to send it back.

I'm also doing my first mailing 10 weeks before....2nd mailing 7-8 weeks before if I get a lot of no's.

Re: RSVP??
I mailed mine about Oct. 1st and our RSVP date was November 18th for our Dec. 21st wedding.
You want between 4 - 6 weeks b/f your final #'s are due (about 10 days ahead). Even w/all this notice, people still don't RSVP on time! We're still waiting for 2 & our wedding is in less than 2 weeks!
Good luck!

Re: RSVP??
You guys are going to think I am nuts but I set the RSVP date for Dec 15 for my Dec 29th wedding. Knowing that most people would not know what the holidays would hold for travel, etc until after Thanksgiving, I didn't want to deal with people sending it in early and then deciding they can't come because of some holiday committment. FH family is all from out of town and it is working out fine. We only are missing a few and they still have a couple of days. Plus, even if people haven't responded yet and they are out of towners, I am assuming they are not coming since it is pretty costly to book airfare to NY last minute.
