Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
yeah, you're right....they're not obligated to getting you anything. If they give you something, that is quite thoughtful of them....but you shouldn't expect anything.

I wouldn't expect anything from anyone who wasn't attending my wedding.

Don't expect it. We had A LOT of no's and only got a gift with two of them.
Same here, so far. We have received 29 no's to date and only one person has sent a gift.

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
I don't know. I wouldn't expect people to send a gift if they didn't come to the wedding. What if they said no for financial reasons??
I don't think it is necessary if they are not going to the wedding

I usually do but it all depends on the person.

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
yes, you should DEFINITELY be expecting gifts from the no's.....the same gift that they would have given you had they attended.

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
I think some people will send gifts, and some probably won't. The last wedding we were invited to we were not able to attend & I sent a gift.

Some people do, some people don't. I would if I couldn't go to a wedding.

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
Wow... i am really surprised - and I feel kinda bad. Usually when we respond no, it's because I feel we can't afford it so we will just pass. I would never expect someone to send me something if they weren't coming... i mean, just cuz you get in invitation you HAVE to give a gift? We live on a really tight budget and I think just cuz you send an invite doesn't automatically entitle you to a gift - it's not like that person asked to be invited. It's a nice gesture but that's about it. I hope though that I haven't made anyone feel bad.. guess I just didn't realize - I was thinking that if it were me, I wouldn't expect it.

there is no right or wrong answer to this...people that are very close to you that can not attend will most likely send a check...those that arent so close probably will not
I agree. This is one of those sticky questions...I think if you are really close to the person(s) then they should send you a gift..if not, then thats fine too. Im expecting a few NOS and not expecting gifts...like you said, it would be nice...but I wouldnt be upset if I didnt get anything..

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
Honestly... I didn't expect gifts from my 'No's'. I didn't pay for a plate for them. I extended an invitation and some people really do respond no because they do not feel as though they can afford to come to the wedding.
I did get a few gifts from my no's - but they were a pleasant and unanticipated suprise.
Gifts are never a requirement though. I was honestly and genuinely happy to be married and to have the people I cared most about there to celebrate with me. Even if they didn't give me a dime... and some didn't.

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
Huh, I wasn't really expecting anything from the 'No's' but if they send something it will definitely be a blessing to us

I totally agree with 2Be1 'Huh, I wasn't really expecting anything from the 'No's' but if they send something it will definitely be a blessing to us '
We did receive a few though and were thankful that we did

Re: RSVP 'NO' etiquette?
Well when we go to a wedding we give money mostly, but sometimes a gift....it depends on who's getting married. When we have not attended I have always sent a card and a gift of money. It's not normally as much as if we went, but very close. I guess even a congrats card would be expected or maybe a phone call the week of the wedding to let them know they are thinking of you. I guess if it's a big wedding and the no's are from the people you don't well then I would not expect anything
