updated: Is it acceptable to have an early RSVP and ALSO make the date 3 weeks AFTER they get the invitation?
For example:
If the wedding is 3/31 and I make the RSVP 2/25 Can I send the invites out on say 2/4?
I sent out Save The Dates, so everyone has had enough time to decide if they want to join us or not. I need to know a head count asap (budget reasons) and I also think they will respond FASTER if they see the date is shortly after receiving the invitation. It's easy to put it aside and forget about it.

Re: RSVP question
I'd probably send it out a week earlier than that. The RSVP date is fine, but with only 2 1/2 weeks from invites being sent out to the RSVP date, you're going to have a lot of phone calls to make. JMO!

Re: RSVP question
I almost feel like it would be opposite. Isn't it easier for people to respond when they have a shorter deadline rather than leaving it to the side, knowing they have 6 weeks and forgetting about it?

Re: RSVP question
Honestly, if I received your invite with 2 weeks to spare for RSVP, I would think I was B listed. You should allow 4 weeks minimum, especially if you have OOT guests and guests who need babysitters for the night.

and regardless of your RSVP date, people respond when they want to as a lot of us 2011 brides are learning.

100% agree with this. Two weeks is not enough time to let guests RSVP.

Re: RSVP question
What would you say if I sent them at the end of January and made the RSVP 2/18? Too early?
The only reason I asked this whole thing, is because I just received a wedding invitation with 3 weeks response and I know FOR SURE I am not on the 'B list', if there even is one.
I actually thought for a second that it might be a good idea... but I guess not.
All my out of town guests have received save the dates and either will be flying in or not coming to the wedding.

I hear ya. I was just trying to think of a creative way for people to not forget. I thought about offering them to RSVP online if they prefer...

sending end of Jan and asking for RSVP by 2/18 is the same thing as sending the other dates you originally mentioned. It's just not enough time.

I think no matter what you do, no matter how creative you may be, you will get late RSVP'ers.

No, Jan 20-21st would be 4 weeks. That's all I meant by end of Jan.
It's not the same thing as I just mentioned.

Re: RSVP question
Invitations should be mailed six to eight weeks before the wedding date. Here is my invitation timeline:
I can almost guarantee that folks will still miss the RSVP deadline even though they have six weeks to respond. Go figure.

Re: RSVP question
I gave them 2 1/2 weeks. I would have sent them sooner, but it just wasn't happening (I made my own invites) I also do sort of agree about giving such a long span of time to RSVP. If they see a date that is so far in the future, they won't feel the urgency to respond and then will likely forget. If they think they're b-listed, then what can i do? They're invited, so that's all that matters.

Yea, that's what I was trying to explain. I know everyone has opinions and etiquette and all ...
I am also making my own invites.
There's no way anyone would be confused about a 'B list' because if you get a save the date, you are invited!
I am thinking of just doing 3 weeks reply time and having the response date set for 5 weeks before the wedding. This way if they send it late, it's still enough time. Everyone that is close to me knows about the wedding and everyone who is not, has gotten save the dates as well as a website with accommodation info on it.
If they send them late anyway, what's the difference?
