'Both bride and groom refuse(bride planning own shower)'
Rude, yes ... but the groom is not taking his family's side of things so he'll just have to live with the fact that his family won't be there because HE won't accomodate anyone in his family ... Hope the groom loves his in-laws because he's going to lose his family if he let's this happen ...

Re: Rude or not?
Rude on the Groom's family part...yes.
I have more than once travelled more than 2 hours each way for showers, christenings, weddings and would never ask the person to change the date.

Re: Rude or not?
Is there anyway they could have two showers one in long island and one in another state. My sister drove up to CT to her inlaws house so they could have a shower by them and none of the groom's relatives had to drive down to long island when I had her shower. It worked out really well that way.

Sheesh, I really hope that the groom doesn't lose him family over a bridal shower... Who do you think is being rude in this situation?

I don't know about rude, but definately a foundation for future problems. I hope they can work this out.

I think the whole scenario is rude starting with the bride and groom planning their own shower.

you are right, the groom probably won't lose his family over a bridal shower ... however I think you missed the point I was trying to make - marriage is a compromise and wedding planning is a compromise. The grooms lack of respect/understanding for his family will make them not go out of their way for him in the long run ... I've seen it before, I'm actually witnessing it right now with a friend (his wife is a monster... I'll leave it at that) I do not think the groom's family was out of line to ask for a day in which it would be easier for them to make it and have a good time with the brides family. From what the post says it seems as though the brides family is completely unflexible and yet that's OK. I think the brides family and the groom himself is being completely rude and inconsiderate.

Understood about the compromises, agree 100%. I guess in my mind, I find a lot of these things unbelievable. To me, if i get an invitation to something that is far and I want to be there, I go... if not, I don't. Fairly simple concept. No one can please everyone all the time and someone will always be hurt and insulted. I hope that them not changing the date will not hinder love from the groom's family in the future. Tit for tat doesn't cut it.

I understand that too. Well we don't know the whole story so it's hard to get what is happening so I think we are both reading differently into it. I just feel like if my family (the brides) side did that to FH's family it wouldn't be right. My mother knew from the beginning that FH's mom was to be involved in everything (I have a great relationship with her) and my mother was cool with that. If my mother thought that FH's family was feeiling inconvienenced I think she would feel bad herself and make it work for EVERYONE involved. It's seems like the bride, the bride's family and the groom aren't doing that and to me it's just plain RUDE and sad. The grooms side is just as important as the brides side - it takes two people to get married. Oh well, whatever the story and reasons behind everything is I hope it works out for them.
