A couple in FH's circle of friends just recently got engaged and personally emailed me to ask when my date was. Now tells us they decided on the week before our wedding. Just curious how everyone else would feel.

Honestly ithink its not right to do it so close to your wedding. My fhs cousin got engaged 7 months after us and their wedding is in less than 2 weeks but its months away from ours so idc. If it was a week before id b upset.

I'd be so pissed if I was you! Seriously the week before that's total bs!

Rude.
Why bother to call and ask if you are just going to scheduled on top of the date anyway. It's inconsiderate that they pretended to try, but try to be realistic - how much of the guest list will overlap?

Pretty rude. But on the bright side, it's not family so the guest list won't be TOO similar aside from mutual friends. Also - use it as an excuse to unwind before your wedding. Unfortunately, there isn't much else you can do.

Thanks everyone. I know the world doesn't revolve around my wedding date but when I found out a week before I couldn't believe it; why ask? All FH's friends will be invited to both. Even if it were a week after I would feel better. I don't want my wedding to be 'ahh we have another wedding' even though I know close friends wouldn't want to think of it like that, it just happens.

I think it's rude. Why did she even bother calling to ask you? Don't change any of your plans because of them though.

Maybe Im the odd ball out. It wouldnt bother me. Its a night for a few hours to relax before your wedding. It also give you the chance to see what you like or dont like about the day of things going on. Im sure she asked because she wanted to make sure its not on the same weekend. Maybe the date they choose was special to her and her FH.

I definitely think it's a little rude, but like you said, the world doesnt revolve around our weddings. But, don't worry about it, all of your mutual friends will know that you were booked first so I dont think they will see you as 'another wedding.' If they were to be upset or have negative feelings it will most likely be towards your friends who set the date a week before your wedding that has already been planned.

It's rude. I don't understand why they would plan it the week before your wedding. They could have pushed it out a month or two.
Will they be on their honeymoon and not be able to attend your wedding? At least you will have a chance to see what you like and don't like about their wedding.

It is rude, but there might be a good reason they did that - their venue could have been booked for most of that month, or time of year except for that weekend, maybe? Even though we booked our wedding WAY in advance, a few of our dates we wanted were already unavailable (about a year and a half in advance!). You never know...hopefully they'll elaborate as to why they scheduled it then - or you won't know if they're being rude or just didn't have many options - also, sometimes peoples' MIL's and moms can be insistent as to when your wedding is (sat/sun, day or night, month, etc.), there are a lot of factors that could have made them choose that weekend.

I'm about to face this issue as well with my cousin getting engaged so I know how you're feeling. It's tough and I was talking it over with my mother and said that I wouldn't go which is upsetting since it would be family, but my anxiety level will be seriously through the roof.
I get there might be a factor as to why they might've planned it that way, but it's still pretty messed up.

I think I would have felt better if I got a call/email saying I am so sorry but the hall we love only has this date available..

My baby cousin got engaged 3 months after us, and he planned his wedding exactly a month after ours. We set our date before he even proposed to his fiancee. He was well aware of our date as he was shopping for halls. My fiancee was PISSED by both his engagement on top of ours and now his wedding. I was my annoyed about the wedding date bc I felt bad for all the guests on our family's side that have to now shell out for 2 showers, and 2 wedding right on top of each other. In addition to the fact that 4 people in my bridal party are also in his (this means 2 bachelor and 2 bachelorette parties for them)... A big expense at once for A LOT of people. I think it was very inconsiderate of my cousin and his white trash fiancee (oh did I say that)... It's also causing my mom problems in trying to schedule my shower and my MOH my bachelorette party so they aren't on the same weekends and my cousin.

Wow! Now that is definitely rude cos it is family and guestlist will overlap a lot! Why would he even do that? Ughh you can't change it so make the best of it & at least yours is before his so let him worry if ppl wont show up to his wedding.

I agree! I would be pissed but let them explain why. Maybe they do have a good reason.
