So... I am thinking of doing Rum Cake Favors since FH is from Barbados I want to incorporate his culture also...
We are having Italian pastries on the tables at dessert so I figure they can take something from Barbados home with them.
It would be the typical light colored rumcake, because black rum cake I think is too much of an acquired taste.
Has anyone done or seen this??? and if so where did you purchase the rum cakes... and did you do 1 per couple? or 1 per person.
Also for my July wedding, how soon ahead of time can I order them?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Rum Cake Favors
i think its an awesome idea!! I went to a wedding where they did this-- and it was great...it added such different flair-- and its sooo yummy!!
The ones we had were TORTUGA.. so they were 'vaccuum sealed'-- as a matter of fact we bought a bunch on our HM and they are still fresh from 6 months ago-- so you should be good to go even if you order them now
WHAT A GREAT IDEA!! I LOVE IT!!

Re: Rum Cake Favors
I am caribbean and plan on doing a black cake favor.... Most caribbean weddings use some variation of rum cake/ black cake/ black fruit cake as the wedding favor. I think your FH's family may expect it and would love it. You just need to find an authentic baker to do it. But its a nice tropical touch and you can present it in a favor box with coconut tree accents or something like that.

Re: Rum Cake Favors
Thanks girls!!!
Actually, TORTUGA was the brand I was going to buy, becuase it is lighter rum cake...
So you think if I buy them now they will still be fresh?
Then it will give me time to wrap them and everything...
Thanks again girls!

That's a very nice idea. You usually do 1 per couple/family and, of course, if you have any single guests then they get 1 also.

therumcakepalace.com - I'm west indian and considered doing rum cake favors. I emailed them and they sent over a price list - they do mini personalized cakes. They have a number listed but the best way to contact them i e-mail.

I know tortuga cakes come vacuum wrapped in little tortuga boxes. Well, at least the ones I bought while i was in the caribbean. I would suggest just keeping them in their boxes and wrapping them in nice paper.
