That's Awesome!! You go girl!
Haven't attempted a 1/2 marathon yet. I run 4 or 5 day a week. I also run in a winter/summer series every Sunday. I mainly run for fitness but was considering trying a 1/2 marthon. My brother in law is training for the Boston Marthon in April!
Where do you run? I like it because you can do it anytime anywhere and you don't need equipment!

Re: Running/Marathoners
This will be a huge challenge for me physically because one is supposed to start a 12 week training program (for the Half Marathon) with a base of 15-20 miles a week and I definitely don't have that! I have like 16 weeks until my race so I have a lot to work to do....

Re: Running/Marathoners
I ran the 1/2 8x - love it - the best race ever - flat! My last one was 3 years ago - and when I stopped, I STOPPED. I gained weight with a disc injury - but slowly but sirely I am getting back - have to start w/ walking - so annoying - I HOPE to be back for the race in May - but not very likely. I wanted my 10th to be when I was 30. Let me know iff you would like to know anything else about it - it is great. I actually CRIED my first time finishing!

Here is a question - I have no base to speak of. Do you think I can get it together in 15-16 weeks? I can probably run a mile now without stopping. Maybe longer.

Re: Running/Marathoners
It will be hard I'm sure. You need to deticate all of your time to training. I know that my Brother IL ups his miles each weekend. He runs shorter distances during the weeked then on Saturday run's his long run and up's it by a mile or 2. Right now his long run is 12 miles. He is training for the full Boston Marthon.
I think if you really set you mind to it...it can be done. Like I said I have never trained for it so I don't know. Here is a website that might help! Let me know if you have any questions about getting started.
The first time I had done it - I only ran 6 miles prior - if you have the endurance to that - the next half CAN be done - the crowd and the adrenaline keeps you going - trust me. And have the mind set of not doing it to win, bgut to finish - slow and steady wins! More questions?
I do the LI 1/2 Marathon and Cow Harbor 10K every year...
then I also do the Shelter Island 10K and some Sprint Mini-Triathalons (Oyster Bay and Massachusettes)
I'm so lucky to have a friend that is at the same level as me...to train and run with...it makes it so much easier...
whil she's done the marathon a few times...I tried to no avail to get into NYC 3 times...but I haven't applied in a few years and I don't think I will try the LI....I'll stick to my half...

Re: Running/Marathoners
I use to run until I got a back injury, not related to running though. I use to love the short runs 5K, 10K and charity runs. I miss running and feel like I am jelly. It is a thrill to run the races. I also use to do medical for the NYC Marathon..that is a wild race and the runners are soooo pumped up even in the freezing cold.

Re: Running/Marathoners
yabbobay I run Cow Harbor too! My entire family is going to run this year can't wait! 10K is the most I have ever done. I don't know if I could do a 1/2 marathon.
That's awesome that you have someone to train with. When I run races I run with my sister. It's hard for us to train together since our schedules are soo different.
There is a mini cow harbor coming up in march. 4 miles I believe.
Happy...I love Cow Harbor b/c of the scenery...(shelter island is beautiful too...but flat)...thats the hard part of CW...the hills of Northport!!

Re: Running/Marathoners
My usual run is in Sunken Meadow which has some serious hills. I actually do better in races that have hills then ones that are completely flat.
Where do you live? There is summer series coming up in May. I think it's every Monday night at 7 at different state parks on the Island. You can either sign up for the entire series of just pay $10 on race day. I have been doing the winter series (which i think is almost over) when I can. I think is lirunning.com
I def have to train for cow harbor!

I am trying to train for the LI Half Marathon. I am just starting to get back into running again. I have been a slacker lately. It's so hard to stay motivated!
