I have encountered my first 'i want to scream' moment.
The Judge we are hiring to perform our ceremony just called to tell me he is scheduling another ceremony for a bride getting married at my same venue.. 15 minutes after mine.
I have heard really great things about him but this just seems totally inconsiderate. We were told we would have 30 minutes and we have a sand ceremony and child's vow ceremony added to ours. Do I really need to feel rushed through my ceremony? Also what if something happens and I am running late?
Am I overreacting? All my friends are telling me to find another officiant. I just want to cry. :(
Any advice?

Re: Rushed through Ceremony?
i dont think you are overreacting at all... you scheduled him for a certain amount of time and he is totally wrong for scheduling another ceremony so soon after yours... have you paid him anything yet?
i would consider looking elsewhere for an officiant

Ditto.
I'd call and find out exactly what's going on and why there is one scheduled for so close. Maybe it was a typo and it was supposed to be 45 min after yours? Either way, clarify with him for sure and then I'd hunt elsewhere, especially if you can't find a resolution with him that makes YOU happy.

Yes I was also wondering how i would take my pictures outdoors.. since they would be taken right in the middle of the other ceremony.

Yeah def DON'T do this! My ceremony started 15 late due to unforseen cirumstances so I can't imagine what would happen in that case. . .ridiculous! If you wanted that you could go to city hall!
(and of course no offense to folks who did - i have friends who got married there but it's SERIOUSLY like a 1 minute service)

That would make me so angry - I would definitely look into a different officiant if you had the option.

Look elsewhere, its obvious this guy is only interested in making money and not about the people he is providing the service for. What he is doing is just unacceptable!

15 minutes is way to short! also i'm sure you'd want pictures taken after . hmmm i'd talk to him and request at least the 30 minutes

Re: Rushed through Ceremony?
15 MINUTES?! I'm all for short and sweet but that's ridic.! But it sounds like you are not only going to have to look for a new officiant but a new venue for the ceremony. Sorry you're going through this!!

Re: Rushed through Ceremony?
I contacted him with my concerns and he tried to tell me the other wedding would probably not start until 6:30 and as long as I was on time everything would go smoothly.
If there is ANY event that is notorious for SOMETHING happening and suddenly running late it is a wedding! I can't believe he was SO HIGHLY recommended.
He is no longer our officiant and we now have to find another. So disappointing!

Re: Rushed through Ceremony?
i'm so sorry you 'lost' your officiant.
on the bright side, you should be really happy that you found this now, as opposed to on the day of your wedding!

Everything else has gone so smoothly I guess this isn't the worst snag. :)

I don't want to sound stupid but even firing him as your officiant doesn't he still have a wedding booked 15 minutes after yours at your venue. I would call the venue and make sure they don't allow this.

Re: Rushed through Ceremony?
Yes our wedding is indoors and the other ceremony is in the gardens. Although we are supossed to take outdoor pictures so I immediately sent my BM a note asking how this was possible. I am waiting for her reply and hopefully she will give me some reasonable answer so I don't totally lose it .

Good for you!! That is really not something you want to leave up to chance, that if you are running late there's basically no wedding. You will find someone who works better for you!

Re: Rushed through Ceremony?
you're not over reacting I would lose it. you boked him first. He should be considerate of your time and that's not fair that he's going to rush through you ceremony just to make money. I would tell him that if that's the case you're going to find someone else who's not going to rush everything.
