Rushed through Ceremony?

Original post by Hazel6880

Hi Girls,

I have encountered my first 'i want to scream' moment.

The Judge we are hiring to perform our ceremony just called to tell me he is scheduling another ceremony for a bride getting married at my same venue.. 15 minutes after mine.

I have heard really great things about him but this just seems totally inconsiderate. We were told we would have 30 minutes and we have a sand ceremony and child's vow ceremony added to ours. Do I really need to feel rushed through my ceremony? Also what if something happens and I am running late?

Am I overreacting? All my friends are telling me to find another officiant. I just want to cry. :(

Any advice?

Yes our wedding is indoors and the other ceremony is in the gardens. Although we are supossed to take outdoor pictures so I immediately sent my BM a note asking how this was possible. I am waiting for her reply and hopefully she will give me some reasonable answer so I don't totally lose it .

oh ok, that's good then. I would hope your BM will make sure everything goes smoothly and you can get your pictures where you would like them. Good luck.

don't be suprised if they tell you sorry you can't have oytside pics. when we were checking places we went there - - would have been upstairs and I asked could we take pics outside since they are known for their lovely gardens. was told no - - outside belongs to wedding downstairs.
If I hadn't asked . . . you would thinkthey'd make a point to tell you something like that.

but I hope you get good news from them, maybe they've gotten nicer in 3 years.

Does he mean 15 minutes after yours ENDS? I'm going to assume its not after the start. I would clarify what the exact timeframe is that he's booked for you (foerm when until when) and ask what happens in case of a delay

I don't think you're overreacting at all. What does it say in your contract (about length of time)? Weddings generally never start on time, unless you are crazy OCD about it , so to not have any window like that is extremely inconsiderate and unprofessional. He's obviously trying to make an extra buck because the economy is so bad. I'd talk to him about this and see what can be done. If it's nothing, then break the contract and find another guy.

Definitely not overreacting. I would look for another officiant.

you have all the right to get your time! the ceremony is the most important aspect of your wedding day and it should NEVER be rushed!

i would seriously consider using someone else if that judge wants to rush your ceremony.

Make sure he meant 15 minutes when he said 15 minutes and if that's the case I would get rid of him STAT!

I'm glad you found all this out now, instead of in a few months. Good Luck!

i dont think you are overreacting at all... you scheduled him for a certain amount of time and he is totally wrong for scheduling another ceremony so soon after yours... have you paid him anything yet?

i would consider looking elsewhere for an officiant

ITA. This is really unprofessional imo.

Ditto.

I'd call and find out exactly what's going on and why there is one scheduled for so close. Maybe it was a typo and it was supposed to be 45 min after yours? Either way, clarify with him for sure and then I'd hunt elsewhere, especially if you can't find a resolution with him that makes YOU happy.

Ditto - you in no way should be rushed through your ceremony.

Thank so much for all the advice! I did find another Officiant I think will be an even better choice than the first. It's really a blessing in disguise b/c everything about this new person seems wonderful and the vows he sent me were amazing and can be personalized.. so much better than the standard ones I was planning to have. We are meeting with the new Officiant next week.

Also my pictures will still take place outdoors! Yay! the WM has a different area for pictures and ceremonies. (Someone up there still loves me! haha)

FH's are great but sometimes only a fellow 'bride' understands what you are going through lol. I'm glad I found this site! Thanks again to julesrbf and AwaitingAugust for your recomendations and everyone else for their support.

That is unbelievable. I would definitely hire someone else. A couple of hours in between maybe, 15 minutes... no way. You do not need or want that hanging over your head while you're walking down the aisle. He's not being fair to you or the other bride in my opinion.
