Re: Russos on the Bay, Fox Hollow & Jericho Terrace - honest opinions

Hi Katrina,

I am a Russo bride! I am having a Saturday afternoon wedding in June. Russo's was my first choice but I could not afford the per person rate at night (Saturday)So I opted for a afternoon wedding. I was quoted $75pp person. I booked the Renassiance room - you don't come out from the floor but from a stage where the doors seperate and go down a lighted stairs. I have never been to a wedding there but I based my decision there because of the outstanding service and delicious food. IF you have any questions, please FM me. You should drag FI there, it would be a good experience!

We checked out Russos and liked the place. As we pulled up a bride was pulling up on a horse drawn carriage with trumpeteers. It's a weird location though - on the main road with tons of traffic. The valet area is sectioned off with orange cones though. Russos is also next to a gas station and right under an air traffic pattern. We saw and heard plans go over head as we walked in....but we did not hear the planes once we were inside.

We did not speak to a BM since they are apparently all off today - Labor Day Monday. There were two weddings going on so the staff was occupied. FI complained about the service. LOL He got spoiled by Mike at Jericho Terrace. Nobody offered him a long island. LOL Actually, we were offered drinks and I opted for water. He wanted nothing.

So, we got inside and it was a totally different world. Lots of marble & granite. I asked the corporate person about off season (Jan - Feb) and got a Sat/Sun afternoon price of $82pp ++ & a maitre D required gratuity. 125 minimum for the Tivoli Room (with the elevator entrance). It holds over 200 though. I am not sure about the amount for the maitre D. I plan to call tomorrw to speak with a banquet manager.

So, I asked about afternoons in the prime season and got a quote of $77 pp - even for Mondays!!! FI was put off by that since he knows it should be less for a Monday than a Saturday after all of the halls we visited. The winter afternoon price of $82 ++ is also high to me - but it includes a mini vienesse (sp?).

I will ask the BM if they can do better than $77 pp for an afternoon in the summer. If they can't do better on the price, we will go with Jericho Terrace or Fox Hollow.

FI is sick of looking at halls and we don't want to do $77 pp for an afternoon plus 18% service charge & required maitre D grat plus tax. Oh, and the ceremony fee is $750 which includes chairs and 'hospitality?' I will ask the BM about that too.

I did like Russos but for the interior not the outside. Also, the menu looks great - 11 entree choices for the guests. Plus Italian is one of FI's favorites....after soul food and seafood. We also liked the elevator entrance idea which takes just under 2 minutes. FI thought it was a little hollywood and one person said it was kindof stripper like. LOL I had not even thought of that but it's kind of true. LOL

We saw 2 videos of the place and it's very pretty inside. I still want to get inside and actually see the room though. I pressed that at Fox Hollow and got to see the room in between set ups.

We were put off by the 'no tasting' at Russos until after you book thing. But I will also speak to a BM about that. They may have showcases coming up soon so we can taste the food.

I don't know what it is on sunday in winter, but just for comparison's sake, my sister was quoted $188 for a saturday night in the spring...I know it's the opposite price spectrum, but I don't think russo's is ever under $100. I live right near Russo's and EVERYONE around here is having xmas parties there at that time, so it may not even be considered off season for them. The ONLY way to know is to go there. You may go there and not even like it, so... it's better to just go, get an actual price quote and figure it out for yourself. If I find out before you do, I'll let you know. I'm also planning for dec 2006. I'm going to look at russo's, but there's no way I could afford it.

Russos is actually under $100 pp. We got a quote of $82 pp ++ for Sat/Sun afternoons and $77++ for a Monday afternoon in October including a mini vienesse (sp?).

WOW! That's really good! A lot better than I would have expected. I guess having it off time/off season DOES make a huge difference!

Tax and service charge will bring it over 100pp though.
