Russos on the Bay in Queens
We went to Russos on the Bay and it was really pretty on the INSIDE. First off, FI is born and raised in Brooklyn and HATES Queens. He was willing to go though since we have heard so many people rave about Russos. It was not hard to find and probalby only 20 minutes or less away from my place in Brooklyn had it not been for the traffic (Eastern Parkway parade). Tha tis important since I want to take pics at the promenade near the Brooklyn bridge after the wedding.
There were 2 weddings going on so we only saw a video but the room they offered us – the Tivoli room – has an elevator entrance for the couple into the reception room. It’s a glass elevator. They also have 11 entrée options – guests choice!! It’s a lot of Italian food which is good since FI likes soul food, seafood & Italian food in that order.
We are now thinking of a warmer month since the appeal of a lot of the halls is the water or the gardens. We may pick a holiday Monday if it's cheaper than weekends in the summer. We were going to Mexico to get married anyway so FI said all those who wanted to come to Mexico can still take the weekend and come to NY and then just take Tuesday off of work. Some of his family and a few of my friends balked at the Mexico idea so we are back to NY.
Russos wants a 125 guarantee for Monday 10/10/2005 Columbus Day and it’s $77pp ++ and a matire D gratuity is in the contract too. Not sure how much it is though for 125 people.
There is a bride with a Satruday afternoon in June for $75++ though so Monday 10/10/05 SHOULD be cheaper, right?
Today only a corporate woman was there....not a BM.
Russos is nice but on a main road by the highway. Once you get inside the place it is really nice. Tons of food and okay service per FI's opinion. Today there were two weddings and the banquet managers were not around so maybe it’s better service when it’s not a holiday? They were giving all the attention to the brides – and they should have too. There is a gas station beside the place and it’s close to the airport too. When we arrived a bride was coming in via horse drawn carriage like Cinderella. She also had trumpets playing. It was cute but lost on the guests since they were all inside already. At Jericho Terrace I feel like Mike would have arranged for the guests to be in the lobby or outside to see that arrival. I’m sure it’s good in pictures but if nobody saw it except about 15 staff members and passersby – what what the point? Cute idea though. White horses and a white see-through carriage. I like the trumpets too but it looked dangerous right on the actual highway like that.
Oh yeah, the Russos bathroom is the nicest I’ve seen. Full wooden doors for stalls and actual hand towels not paper towels…like at my Italian friends parent's home (except they the parent's had engraved hand towels).
FI likes Jericho Terrace (and Mike); Russos and Fox Hollow in that order. I have to sit and compare menus but Russos wins out on the most for the money food wise. Neither place is offering centerpieces (except cocktail floating flowers at Jericho Terrace).
