My mom just called... my great uncle Joe (my grandmother's brother) was admitted to the psych ward at LIJ on Wednesday for dementia ![]()
. He wasn't at the wedding on Sunday (had declined, didn't just not show up) but we didn't think too much of it. But now we know why. This man is truly the funniest person I have ever known, we love him so much!!! And, the worst part is he's in perfect physical condition!!! They did all the testing, et al to make sure it wasn't due to medication or an illness or anything and everything came back in tip-top shape. So now he's just going to have to completely deteriorate for who knows how long ![]()

I am so sorry ...DH's great uncle had alzheimers and dimentia and it was really hard to watch him live like that
we live in his house now(he died and left the house to MIL and she sold it to us)
We try and remember him the way he was before

but many people live with dementia for some time! Maybe it isn't as bad as you think?
