So i went on an interview today, and Ive been offered the position. The only prob is they want to know my current salary and what my salary requirements are. Is it legal for them to check out what im currently making? Now FH thinks I should flub a little aobut what Im making now and then ask for a little more on top of that. I have already told the person the round about of what I was looking to make, do you think I should test it and push for a little more now that they are asking again??

Re: Salary
when a friend of mine was interviewing she was asked to bring in a pay stub from her former job to prove what she was earning.
IMO, be honest… because I think it is legal for them to check.

Re: Salary
I have a friend who got screwed - when she filled out the application for a job she interviewed for she signed a disclaimer (not realizing) that she gave permission for this new company to find out her current salary info. Not knowing this, when they asked her how much she made, she inflated it by a decent amount and when they checked and found out how much she inflated it - they reneged the offer!! I think it ***** that jobs do this - but I think you have to be honest.

Re: Salary
well heres the deal, we discussed all of this on the phone before meeting, I went in for the interview and the guy was over a 1/2 hr late to meet with me and I have yet to fill out an application. (m thinking this guy is unorganized or just has way to much on his plate.) At my current job, I dont work a five day week, but I make a certain salary each week. Would it be wrong for me to tell him what I want based on an hourly wage? Then he can interpret that anyways he wants if he does ask proof of my salary?

Re: Salary
I am unemployed now and unemployment sent me to an INterviewing techniques workshop yesterday, so I learned some stuff.
According the to the guy who gave the seminar, it is illegal for them to ask you for your pay stub. They CAN ask for proof that you worked at your last company but they can't ask your previous salary.

Yes, I think that is fair. Base what your salary WOULD be if you worked FT!

Re: Salary
Honestly I would not lie about your salary. You could automatically be dropped if they find out (this includes once you are hired). I am in HR, alot of companies will ask you for a current paystub to verify. Some verify it after you start working. You never know, it just isn't worth it. I would be honest - if anything tell them you are elgible for a big bonus, they can't verify that.

Re: Salary
I'm not expert, but i you do lie, don't lie by much. If you say a number too hgh, they may decide you're too expensive for them. plus if they DO check, you don't want a reputation as a liar. Best of Luck
